Well the LSD centre would fit any ratio of course.
I can only be sure there wasn't a 3.08 LSD as option or standard in any AU series. Before that maybe. |

I think they were available in 3speed EA's.
Most commodores run them! They are normally removed for 3.45.

No car came standard with 3.08:1 LSD iirc. Stock LSD cars were only Ghia/LTD/XR.
2.77, 3.23, 3.27, 3.45 are stock LSD ratios etc

on the topic of low ratios. would the 2 extremes work, say and ef/el manual with long gears with a 277 lsd the lowest ratio
has this been done? imagine the fuel economy a decent motor shouldn't struggle either?

I swear I've seen 2.92 in some E-series Fairlanes though, hmmmmm maybe I'm tripping.
I knew I should of got an XE and kept my diff, this ratio is shocking. |

I have 2.77 and EA t5 and it revs way to low, still takes off good, 5 th gear isn't really needed till above 110. 3.08 with an LSD centre would be nice. Don't think they came standard in any e-series.

I believe the EF Fairmont Ghia had a 3.08 LSD. Also the EA II, EB series I and ED Fairmont Ghias.

Can't remember exactly what it cost me. I think it was about $300 with a new set of bearing, but I supplied the hemi.

Well the bearing kit was worth $120, then LSD oil and an hour or two of labour setting it up. But yes, it was an expensive way of doing it.

Jack: you'll find that the ghia's will have 3.23 in all examples you gave not 3.08.
3.08 was for cfi cars in the ea 4 speeds so you won't find that in a ghia.

Mine's a stock SS EL Fairmont diff, not sure what ratio. Would I be better off just buying the LSD centre or trying to find an EF Ghia diff @ the wreckers?

but dont forget... calculating auto rpm at 100 kmph using gear ratios is a bit of a mis match.. Even though there is converter lock up its not 100 percent locked and you still get slip... mabie thats why 4th is a bigger overdrive than the manual
