Default Installation of Head Unit

Hello there..
Im having a daft time trying to fit an aftermarket head unit into such my 97 El :

Now wiring was teh easy bit ironicly.. just what em i dong wrong to get it to screw up into the original housing??

Should i be using the factory holders of the originla head unit.. or are there generic ones i should be buying.??

I say such caue they are tapered in away to fit the standard y tape deck of course

What em i missing.. did a quick search ut could only find cable issues so i must be a tool :ymca:

Anyone care to shed some light?

i found i had to grind the brackets to make it fit back in.
it deffinately depends on the headunit.

for a mates car i had to grind bits off to make it go back in.
mine went back in, but took a lot of force.
just try and modify the bracket to make it work.

I have an alpine headunit and i had to cut a few chunks out of the bracket to get it to fit to the side of the headunit... Also had to drill holes in new places.

Didn't need any force to get it back in tho. Slid straight in snugly with no problems...

I have an EF and i fitted a sony x-plod system into it. I was able to use the factory brackets and it slid straight in. Some may be slightly larger though.

When I fit a head unit to my EA before it was stolen i had to weld the bracket from the headunit onto the brackets that came with the car..
