Hello all
now i realise this may be better off in the elec section off FFAU but i know there are more than a few dudes in here who will be able to help me with my problemo basically a mate of mine some time ago installed a new HU and fried something. I havent had a look at his car at all but i can describe whats going on. His central locking, fuel release buttons etc stopped working (car is EBII Fairmont) so i assumed a fried BEM. He went down to the wreckers, bought a new one, installed it according to his manual (plug it in, leave car for 30mins with jey set to acc or on or something) and all should be sweet. It wasnt. So he left it for another few months and only played with it again the other day. ok so without me having a look myself i'll type what he told me "There is two box things under the dash. One red one green. I thought i friend the green one (BEM) however i was mucking around with the red one, i disconnected it and reconnected it and my central locking went off. I used my smartlock remote and it all worked. then i noticed my central locking fuse arcing. So i pulled the fuse and left it again." I personally think its a short somewhere, but not having a wiring diagram or knowing what shenanigans went down when the h/u was installed, OR knowing what these green/red box things are (one must be smartlock) I wouldnt know where to start. Any helpful suggestions? i dont think this dude is terribly motivated but he is getting sick of popping his fuel flap via the boot Thanks!

haha
ok i think i did this to a mates car too ill tell u what happened: ok i pulled his stock headunit out... and just cut the plug off (so all the wires from the loom were hangin) ok when i went to connect the car loom to the headunit loom i realised there was two green+yellows (power from battery) one of these had no voltage on it the other did. so i used the one that had +12v, connected up all the speakers and put the headunit in. and all worked fine. however the smart lock didnt work and what i figured out was the problem, the smartlock power comes from that other green+yellow that had no voltage on it. so you need to hook up the two green + yellows and the headunit power all together umm hope you can understand that lol.. hope this helps =) |

Smartlock is still working, as in we are getting the LED flash on the dash. When we use the smartlock remote, the indicators flash on the car but there is no central locking (even with fuse in)
must be a BEM fault then. Im an apprentice sparky by trade but im not really all that interested in crawling under his dash all day looking for a short lol. Are there any simple tests to tell if the actual BEM works? If there is a short in the car i can imagine the new BEM he got from the wreckers would already be shot
