Angry El Xr8 Auto Problems

I have a problem with my auto dropping down gears at speed. This only happened in top down at first when it was bad.Now it occasionally happens but not dropping down to 2nd or 3rd like before at 100Kph. 5 solenoids replaced ,valve bodies rebuilt, fuel filter,TPS switches replaced, speed sensor replaced. Just recently told of wiring harness common fault (engine/trans)being brittle and causing major problems with taxis. Has anyone had this fault as it is starting to annoy me. Thanks Deano

Inhibitor switch ;) I had this problem on my EL Ghia V8 and this fixed the problem right up. I was told it's because of the location of the exhaust on the 5.0s that cause it to get hot and eventually die.

Yep, exactly what he said ^^^

With the Pacemakers, the LH cat sits right next to the switch as well.

That might be just the information I was looking for aswell.
My car is an ed v8 and she sometimes drops...or goes into neutral(not good if you are revving hard!)
The auto trans place scanned it ,drove it and said she was sweet although it could be the engine breaking down or something to that effect(hunting for the gears)
Next time i get her serviced I'll be mentioning the inhibitor switch, thanx guys

Agreed. Definately the inhibitor switch. Cost us $120 supplied and fitted for the EL so it's not too expensive.

Default Thanks for the Help

I have just come inside after fitting a new inhibitor switch in the car to see if anyone had replied. Thanks for the replies as it is reassuring to know that others have had (and fixed) this problem.I cannot give an answer on how the car is going as it is an intermittent problem. Thanks again Deano _2:

Default Further info

After pulling apart the inhibitor switch the sparky at work noticed that the connections where a plug goes in are the ones that are dodgy.Apparently the inhibitor switch is used to plug the sensor into the main loom. This making a bad connection occasionally drops the car down gears or into neutral.Hope this helps someone. But dont stuff around like I did just replace it.

Might be worth getting a HEAT shield from a BA falcon and putting on your exhaust near the Sender? They arent very dear. Cheaper than a new sender

There is currently a heat shield in this area that protects all the switches from heat. The gap between the shield and the cats is not very large at all. I suppose if this shield was doing its job there wouldn't be a problem. Is the BSA one larger or thicker than this shield?. Thanks for the info.
