Default EB Compliance Plates

Hey all,

I've just picked up a '92 EB XR6, and I was wondering if anybody has links to a plates breakdown guide? It seems way too elaborate to be a mock-up, so I'm fairly sure it would be an xr6, but a number of things make me suspicious, and I want to know for instance if it was originally manual, and verify that it is in fact a true xr6. I mean it has the tickford motor, LSD, suspension, badging, trim, etc. of an xr6. But for instance the round XR lights seem to have been a dodgy home bolt-on job. Did all XRsixes have those? I thought they did. Maybe another XR6 owner can tell me if the plates say anything about it being an XR and where?

My primary suspicion is that it has been pranged, and replacement parts fitted after bodywork. I know the previous owner slid the **** into something and damaged the spoiler/tail lights/etc.

Bonnet vents are just wrong. Also as niko noted, EBXR's dont have 4light fronts.

Engine code should be X, model code should be 18335.

EB XRs didn't have Tickford badges either. Bonnet vents are backwards (and not factory fit).

EB XR also only had Red 4lt badges not XR6 badges on the front guards.
If it is a real XR6, the paint code for it will be R, as the ebxr's only came out in Lemans, not Monza.

Very true, but he al least has to know if its for real.

Any interior pics?
Has it got a four spoke MOMO wheel?
They where standard on EB XR's.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the advice, I actually realised just after posting that the ED lights weren't on EBs, those are a pretty dodgy mockup on closer inspection. The rest was very informative, and if according to your posts and the compliance plates it is indeed an XR6. Paint code R, Engine X, etc. etc.

Guess he's just mocked it up like an ED. I suppose that's what I'll tell people it is :P

When will people learn there's nothing to be ashamed of in an EB?

people seem to like making sure people *know* its an XR :P
part of that seems to be the quad lights and plenty of badges.

Mudget, Glad we could help.
Would be interested to see the interior pic to see if they messed with that also. All the same it is still a XR6 either way.
Hope you are heppy with your ride.

Default More pics

Model Code is not 18335 as Psycho Chicken suggested it should be, but all the same, it definately has the tickford motor and the very same plates say it always has. So I guess it's an XR.

To answer some questions, it does have the 4-spoke sports wheel, and I only have photos with seat covers on. I'm leaving them on for now because the front driver's seat has some serious tears. Underneath them it does still have the red XR (Same as S-Pak?) seat trim. Other than that it doesn't look like he's messed with the interior. He had some dodgy sony 6x9s in it, and you can tell he's had an amp mounted in the boot. But I ditched the stereo for the one out of my poor totalled blue EB "Futura".

I kinda figured the vents weren't genuine, but I didn't know they were backwards. I think the previous owner must have been somewhat of a chump. Some of his home repairs are of a fairly pitiful standard.

Also, thanks bdennis, and I'm very happy with my new ride. She's not bad for $2100

*Edit* Pics below. Note extractors and thermofans . Don't note stupid (soon to be removed) type R throttle pedal. I think previous owner was your standard Supercheap customiser. :eclipsee_

Tah
I'm happy with it.
Did I mention she hammers like crazy? I had no idea XRs were that much more powerful than the standard 4.0L. Even my last one was a pretty good motor, but not this fast.

The EB XR6 was a damn nice package, 164kw (I'm pretty sure that was the figure for the EBXR6's?) Just 1 kw behind the V8's from The early/mid 90's.

I dont know why an EB xr6 wouldnt have tickford and XR6 badges up the front, maybe the is the difference between a series 1 S xr6 and a series 2 XR6...
Anyway, nice pick up $2100! i payed $7300 and i had to add ED XR6 lights myself

That's it Kerry. I knew there was a 4 and a 1 in there somewhere. 161kw and 4 kw off the V8 sounds better.

Mate,
That is a steel for $2100. The headlight assy is worth $1000 by it self..
Re the model number.
The 18335 is for a 1993 ED.
From what I can tell it should be 18234 for a 1992 Seddan Sport.
A GL in 1992 is 18233

True, true, the very first XRsixes were made after the change to EBII in October 92 if my Ford trivia serves. I heard 160kw, but 161 is close enough. I've also heard claims that the xr6 was faster, but with the same gearbox, weight, diff, etc. as the 8, how could it be? I'm doubtful. Regardless, 160 is pretty good affordable performance by anybody's standards. Maybe the money I saved can go towards a CAPA supercharger or an intercooled turbo maybe... hehe

My secret was mostly luck. Found her on the net advertised at 3k. The dude who owned it apparently had to move for a job, and his mum sold me the car to get rid of it. I actually tried to talk the price down from 3,000 by offering her 2300 the day after first inspecting it. Instead of taking it she immediately said she'd take 2100. I was confused, but not complaining. Turns out that was the son's minimum asking price.

Thorough inspections revealed it's in even better nick than I expected, so it really was a steal .

Nice buy for the price mate!!! If you want it back to original, you could give me the ED front end and I'd gladly give up my stock headlights! :evil_laug
Seriously tho, if it's a mock up, the guy musta spent way more than he would've made in profit anyway! Those ED XR front ends are worth a mint!
Well done!

less weight and less front heavy, it is true the 6 was quicker.

XR6 had shorter diff ratio, which contributed.

Still, we do like those extra V8 kilowatts, and they sure purr nice

chevl, the ED XR grill is genuine I think, but the lights in it are not. I had to put a set of EB lights in to make sure it passed a safety cert., cos the ones in the ED setup didn't have park lights. Rest assured I'm putting them back in anyway , and I'll consider sorting out the parklights thing later.

Mudget,
Mate to sort out the park lights you will need a set of genuine Ford ED XR indicator assemblies. As they have the light / hold for the parker. The non genuine ones do not. Do the ED xr lights in the car have the extra wire / plug for the parker but just not connected or has he dodgied up the wiring?

true, the parklight are in the indicator assembly... i found it weird that they were there when i had to replace one of my indicators, theyre alot more expensive than the EB ones though, i had to pay $85 more than the EB setup. i guess the guy i bought mine off did it properly :P

The headlights would be Genuine, but not the blinkers.
You can get around the Parker in blinker issue by putting a couple of white LED's in the Blinker assembly as a park light.

Any pics if the seat trim?
