Default Bl00dy Wife <simple solution story>

Heres the story.

The aircon switch decided to become intermittent. It would go off by itself at random intervals. A while ago we bought a replacement aircon cluster for the AU and yesterday and today I have been performing the changeover.

To do this you have to pull basically the entire section of dash apart, ie the radio, disconnect the demister, clock and all the air con plugs. So yesterday I complete the changeover and get all the dash back together. Feeling pretty chuffed with myself I triumphently switch the aircon on and test it is working properly. I discover the vents wont switch when I change it to windscreen, feet etc. It just stays on windscreen.

Not happy Jan, ive bought a faulty part. So I pull the centre of the dash apart again and begrudginly fit the old piece that I know allows me to select the vents and atleast thats something. I switch the aircon on again to make sure it works and lo and behold it still wont select vents. That concluded yesterdays events.

This afternoon I decided to put the dash back together again but instead get to thinking what could it be. Ive put the whole thing together the exact way it was when I took it out. Surely it shouldnt be this hard. I decide to hunt out whats under the dash to see if Ive dislodged something. So I completely remove the radio, completely remove the facia that goes over the radio and vents etc. Completely remove the glove box. After an hour and a half of crawling around on my back and a lot of head scratching I was totally at a loss. I was just about ready to make a post to the forums for some advice when the misses totters out.

She sits in the car and gives me some typical female suggestions which i politely deal with. Then she turns the car on and instantly I feel air blowing on my leg. Apparently you have to have the car turned on to be able to change the vent selection.

GRRRrrrrrrr. All that time wasted. How stupid eh?

Anybody else had a similar experience?

hehe.. thats a funny story.. my dad had a similar problem. He was trying to program a new set of door/boot keys to my new au for me and he was outside for about an hour. I went out too see why it was taking so long to do a 4 second job and it turned out he had turned the ignition on too far and was pushing the wrong demist button.. and he was too man enough to come ask for help.. heh its the little things that make it funny.

Well im glad that all is well now mate.

Sounds like the time I couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start. spent a good amount of time trying different things and then gave up and actually ended up getting out my X year old bike out from the garage, pumping up the tyres, washing it down and riding to where i had to go. Later that evening I got into the car and instinctively put the the gearstick into park, as I noticed it was in drive, and then I realised what a fool I had been; I musn't have put it in park the previous night when I got home and instead only pulled on the handbrake. Something so easy yet I didn't even think about it.
