Default Parking Lights Mod

Hi I'm new to Ford Forums as I have just bought my first car a 97 EL Fairmont, not bad seeing that i am still on L Plates.

Just thought of a good mod, just wanted to know if it was legal or not in Perth.

What I was thinking of doing is replacing the front headlights parking light globe with some high intensity blue LED's so when the parking lights are on the headlights glow blue.

Thanks

As far as I know in all states it is illegal for any red or blue light to be shining out the front of the car.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Agreed.

White LEDs are good except if they are close to a hot source like a headlight globe, they won't last very long.

i heard, and i am stressing, i've only heard, that neons/non flashing lights, such as blue parker neons, are NOT illegal anymore. It's only flashing neons, pulsating neons, etc, that are illegal, because you can be charged with imitating a police car.

anyone else heard this? my mate who's a mechanic and does roadworthies said the new book from vicroads states this.

if this is true, its probably best to ring your local traffic authority and find out from them.

any colour other than white shining from the front of your car (in NSW) is illegal, also onthe side of the car your are only allowed to have orange, and the back can only be red (except for the reverse lights obviously) thats what i was told by my exs father (and inspector in Newcastle) but it may have changed, but anyway question is why?

sorry to say i think ur all wrong, u can have ANY color head lights, under car neons etc and can be pulsing and whateva you like, as long as they are not on while you are driving, ive allready enquired about it, and seems like the most reasonable answer ive heard. u wont be able to change ur parkers because u will have them on wen u are driving at night.

I have white/light blue parkers and white zenon headlights, the light coming from the front is white with a slight hint of blue....Plod's seen it on several occaasions and never said anything. Prolly cause its so close to white.
On a similar note, how do beamers get away with such bright/penetrating blue headlights ?Q??!?!?! WTF ?

they have a projector rather than a conventional reflector. they get away with it because its not really blue light, just a prism effect from the shape of the projector...

the light that's emmited onto the road is white..... they also have no glare

I agree, I'm sick of seeing all the cars with bright blue windscreen washer jets on the bonnet

This morning when it was ****ing down rain in Geelong I got pulled over by the police for having the Blue parkers in, luckily I had the original globes with me and changed them on the spot, and they let me go with a warning!

= illegal*

Yeah, guy at work had skulls with red eyes for squirters on his 38 Ford rod and got defected for it. This was in NSW. Another mate also got defected in Victoria for running blue dots in the tail lights of his 68 XT Falcon.

I'm waiting for my sister to get done. Her daewoo cielo has green condoms over the headlight bulbs. They show up green when the parkers are on but clear when the lights are on properly.

Also went it comes to blue and red lights, it can also count as impersonating a Police car, I know one guy at the station that done a guy for something similar, I'm not that an@l unless someones flashing red and blue lights at the front of their ride and it ain't a emergency vehicle.

I agree. It always annoys me about the number of people who drives with parkers on when visibility is poor. Parkers do little to improve visibility. They are too dim so by the time you see the parkers in poor visibility conditions, you can see the rest of the car anyway! I always have either headlights on, or nothing. That's my opinion on the matter

they are ilegal but hard to see when headlights are on.
i had to take mine out coz they kept melting due to the heat of the headlights,

therefor ive come to the conclusion that they are a waist of time

the sooner people learn that parkers are for having on for CLEARANCE LAMPS ONLY WHEN PARKED the better

very few people must know this as you always see people with just their park lamps on
