Please people I really need some help as this problem has now been with me for 12 months and I am getting so close to putting a match to the car:evilsasmo I have a 1991 Fairmont Ghia that is quite a good car apart from a squeak in the front passenger side brake.
Now before you ask I have been taking the car over to a brake specialist. The rotors have had a very slight machining as they were new. I have had two change of pads - different compounds; calipers have been overhauled - twice; slides have been lubed everything connected with this brake has been serviced yet the squeak still goes on. When ever the car is in motion the squeak starts - tapping the brake pedal causes the squeak to be louder, more of a squeal, momentarily and then it returns to how it was originally. I have cleaned the brakes, etc with brake cleaner and sprayed the approprite parts with anti-squeal, and the pads have had anti-squeal; anti-squeak applied to them. Any ideas would be most appreciated - especially if it fixes the problem. |

there should be 2 thin metal pad locators either side of where the brake pads sit into, are they present, i understand they are supposed to prevent brake squeal.
most dont see them as important, and with or without them you may not get a squeak, so your specialist may not have mentioned or noticed they are not there.

Have you tried replacing the wheel bearing and ruling it out?

Try chucking the car on stands and spraying a little silicon spray onto the rotor rear seals. Believe it or not, these can squeak. Took me ages to find it....
