Default whats a reco power steering rack cost these days?

well my rack has about an inch or 2 of internal play which means you can turn the wheel about 2-3inchs when driving and keep going straight plus its got a nice vibration above 80.

so i want to get a reco rack and my pump is leaking too. also i thought since a lot of gear has to come out to refit a rack i'll get a new sump and oil pump cos the previous owner punched a nice big dent in the sump with a jack and my oil pressure is always quite low.

so what am i looking at for a new rack, pump, sump and oil pump?

A sump should cost you fu#k all. Just a shite load if you want someone else to install it (most mechanics will tell you about dropping the k frame $$$) unless you do it yourself (or get help from others to do it ;)). In re. to oil pumps, you can get rebuild kits that would be cheaper than a whole new one.

Can you get rebuild kits for the racks? Those exchange ones never seem to be all that great.

yeh martin - it always seems like you get a "very slightly less worn" one! which sucks because they are a pain to fit

i have a ex ea ghia rack & steering pump that is in a1 order, i bought a whole wreck for multipoint conversion, the car lived its life on south coast so was rusted badly, but the drive line & everything else is a1, it was a old fellas car,so it was well looked after in the mechanical side,if you want it
will sell you rack & pump for $100, if your not interested that fine, just thought id offer you in case you were interested.

well i just got my car back from the mechanics and he reckons mine is fine which goes against what the racv check said, but i am not complaining seeing as they have just done the head gasket, distributor cap , 1 lifter valve, leads and spark plugs so have bugger all cash left from that.

so thanks for the offer but i will leave my steering rack as it is for the moment.
