What was your first PC?

Mine was a...
Celeron 333
64mb Ram
6.4gb HDD
8mb i740 Graphics Card (used to get 20fps in Quake2)
17" Monitor
and an Epson stylus 440 printer.
It only cost $2300 aswell, fairly expensive considering what it's worth today

Lasted for a few years before I upgraded to a Celly 366 and the wife inherited the 333.

my first was a 286 with huge 100meg hard drive,you may laugh,but heaps of people were amazed that they actually knew someone with a computer.

Hard Drive? What's a hard drive? My first computer was a Commodore 64. No hard drive in those bad boys. Nothing but a tape drive. My second computer was an XT. Then, I moved up to a 186, then a 286, then a 386, then a 486, then a Penitum of sorts, went through a few pentiums. Never paid a cent for any of them. My first computer I bought was an AMD Athlon 2000+, which is now for sale. I am currently running a P4 3.0 with 1GB RAM and 2 80 SATA HDDs. Hoping I can find the money for a PCI-E Video card so I can play V8 Supercars 2 that I got for christmas!

Mine was from a Aussie Computer company gone bust, Osbourne

Has a 100mhz DX486, 8mb ram, 800mb hard drive, 4x cd rom and was preloaded with IBM OS/2 Warp, the predessor to Windows NT. OS2 kept crashing the machine so we demanded DOS and Windows 3.1

That ended up having 40mb ram and ran Windows 98 and was used for a internet only computer for my parents.

My first computer was also the Commodore 64 which I received in 1985.

My first IBM based PC was a 386SX-25MHz which I purchased in 1992. It had an 85Meg HDD, 2 Meg RAM, one 3.5" FDD, one 5.25" FDD and a 14" SVGA monitor. Item such as sound card & speakers, 3D video card, CD or DVD drives/burners or an internet connection just didn't exist in those days.

first pc was a 286 5mhz 1meg ram and 10meg HDD.. current pc is a dual amd 2600 1.5gig ram 200gig sata hdd and gigabit lan with 3 cd-rw / dvd -rw 19" TFT with connection to tv and home sorround for watching lost Session 2 (main PC).. another multimedia pc in lounge and a lappy and 2 pda (one phone the other is used as a Remote for my whole house)

486 i still remember the day that the IT support guy from Mum's work came around and put a 4x CD rom drive in it, and a Soundcard, WITH SPEAKERS!

i still couldnt play Need For Speed on it though :( whole heap of tetris and Wolfenstein though.

The first was a Vic 20, then a C64 then a C128D, then a whole list of sx's and dx's, but they were all my dad's, the first 1 'I' bought was the 333.

I was running Wordstar for my WP, before switching to Multimate. Spreadsheet was Lotus Excel v 1.2. Can't remember the DOS version, probably 2.1.

Had a 286, 640kb of RAM, 256kb ISA videocard, 80MB HDD, 5.25" and 3.5" floppy drives... later upgraded the CPU to a 386 before it carked it and I got a Pentium 75.

First one my parents had and I used was an 8086.. Specs were, 8MHz, 32MB HDD, 640k ram, Paraside VGA card, 3.5" 72-kb FDD, 5.25" 360kb FDD running on DOS 3.30.. Lasted me until '96 when a P120 replaced it.

The first access to a computer we had in the house was dads DEC green & black terminal directly interfaced to an acoustic coupler via the 2400baud serial port and dialing his work to a DEC VAX.

The first computer we had in the house was an Apple IIe.

Then we got an 'AT Compatible" which featured an Intel 286 processor, Intel 287 Math Co-Processor, 1MB System Ram, 512k video memory, 40MB Maxtor HDD, internal 3.5" HDD (1.44MB!) and external 5.25" HDD (1.2MB!) and a laser printer. Cost about $12k. Soon it was upgraded to 4MB system ram, and on a trip back from the US, dad brought home a Sound Blaster Pro (16bit ISA sound card).

We got the computer initially when I was in grade 4 i think. Which would have made it 1988. And we got the Sound Card in '91.

One more C64 here. With the tape deck and "Tooth Invaders" game cartridge. You had to brush the teeth clean while avoiding contact with the fearsome "D.K."

Used to enjoy playing "Lode Runner", an early platform game where you had to get all the blocks of gold whilst avoiding the guards.

Ah! Also must mention the days of typing in games programs (BASIC) from books and magazines!

Mine was a P4... As I have access to computers at work, I held off buying one until a couple of years ago.

But in the 80's we had an Apple IIe at home, which was replaced by an early Macintosh...

Commodore not a 64 though

It was one of the last computers Commodore made, a 386SX with a gigantic 600mb HDD and 4 MB of RAM. It was good in its time (1993) and made light work of Windows 3.1 and Dos 6.0 (good old dosshell)

Not the oldest ive used though, i have used all pieces of bastardry from the C64 to the Apple IIe and numerous old 286's, 386's and 486's.
