Grechie column shift was an option, a lot of Taxis and wagons had column shift.
Put a manual in it if you're going to go to all that trouble. |

So a column shift would connect to the shifter arm of the auto differently? I would've thought a T-bar + housing + linkage to arm would be all that's needed?
Here's a pic of my old one (which is now part of Dezza's EA) and a dodgy diagram of how it hooks up to the auto. |

I've got a friend who has an EBII column shift (not a forum member - in fact he's not really into cars). The column shift was for any car with a bench seat. e-seriesnut, I'd have to say, if I was in your position, I'd convert it to manual. But that's because I like manuals (If I had the money, I'd convert mine). Sounds like a lot of mucking around from column shift to floor shift

I think you could still get column shift on AUs, certainly on the Utes anyway.
Edit - Even BA utes you can still get column shift.

On a really similar note (the picture reminded me) my shiftlock button on the side of the tbar is stuck in at the moment and wont 'pop' out so I can change gear at anytime, it is kinda handy but I dont wanna knock the t-bar by accident one day and screw the whole car over!
is it a simple case of unscrewing the plastic on the top of the t-bar and fixing a loose spring or something like that? or something really screwed up in the tranny somehwere? |

you CAN convert the car from Column to Tbar. A friend of John_xr6's did my old ex taxi EA. Sure it was soo much better looking then the column but you did feel sik slamming into drive when trying to drag a VK commo (Yes I lost :( GO THE CFI LPG TAXI!)
It was alot of work involving cutting the trans tunnel from a Tbar car (and setting fire to my garage floor for the First time) and then tack welding it onto my cars floor and cuting out a hole in the floor for the linkage to come through. This is apparently illegal WITHOUT a Engineers Certificate. honestly, i couldnt be bother doing it all over again unless the car was really unique or was special to you. If you would like to know EXACTLY how it was done I can type it up

Why not learn to love the column shift? Take advantage of the front seat! _2:

Yeah keep the column shift.
I gotta say ever since that centre console has been there, my BJ WD count has gone down dramatically hehe.
