Default EA2BA IS ALIVE !!!! that's right it STARTED.

Hi all,

For all those following my efforts here is a recount of last night and this mornings efforts:

Late yesterday arvo, as per my injector thread the car was not starting and backifiring out the exhaust but looking like it would start.

This morning I go back to the (*&#@(&$@ car (yes getting a little annoyed) to sort out what is happening.

Check the injector with a continuity test, seems to be ok, go to test the wiring to the injector, hmmmm one of the contacts is pushed in too far to touch the injector, bit of a shove here and there saw the wire back in position.

Back in go the spark plugs and turn it over again and again, no luck, no start, I am still not giving up, but feeling slightly dejected.

Pull the plugs out, ok they are now all wet with fuel, a good sign, spirits lift just a little bit.

Plugs back in still no start, ok then what causes a car to backfire and not start but sort of start ...............

So distributor cap off (thank god for BBM so much more room), I pull the plugs again to allow me to rotate the motor and check the rotor position, hmmm how about 180 degrees out on the dizzy (how did i manage this is anyones guess)

So after much double checking and stuffing around to get the rotor pointing correctly and the dizzy actually seated, I get it all back in place.

Now the spark plugs go back in again, leads go back on again (by this stage i am getting really good at this)

Crank her again, no start, ok fine be that way, foot flat to the floor, it fires into life, but no idle, stalls, and just manages to keep 500rpm with foot flat to floor.

So a quick rethink, slight adjust of the dizzy, try again, no starting, foot to the floor, comes to life, same thing wont idle and sounds more like diesel chaff cutter.

So i check the extractors, the bolts are not as tight as i thought, so a retighten of all bolts, try again sounds better, but not quite right still, another quick adjust of the dizzy.

FINALLY........ It starts it idles, it revs, it sounds good, I almost cried.

First thing I did was ring my dear wife and said "tell me what this sounds like?" started the car and gave it a small rev, I can now keep the car ... woo hoo

Well all this is great, but there a alot of bits not bolted on just yet, I was anxious to get it strated, now I am anxious to finish it, get a wheel alignment and do some cruising.

Good stuff mate! At least you sorted the problem and didn't chuck in the towel like so many of us have contemplated when things don't go right the first time! Enjoy that metamorphasis of a car you have!

You were getting annoyed but i bet you were glad and thought it was all bloody worth it in the end

ИИИИ like that used to happen to me with motorbikes a LOT, i remember there was dirt or muck in the bottom of my carby which would not effect the bike until i went up jumps and hit the ground hard, thus shaking the muck around and then engine sucking it in and starting to die..

you can imagine how baffled i was to have my bike stall and not rev properly etc everytime i did a jump..

Looking good!
I remember playing with the timing on a 202 on an engine stand, managed to get flames 2 ft long out of the carby and exhaust... learnt a bit about timing in the process...

How the hell did you manage to hide all the wiring!? I would love to know where you ran the looms so we can do the same thing to Sunny's car. That looks great! Really clean. Looks like somebody got over polishing the BBM halfway through tho lol ;)

That looks awesome, Jason. Big improvement and it sounds like it will run as well as it looks! Are you going to paint that rocker cover at any stage?
