Hey guys.
I got quoted last night $150 installed for a 3.23 LSD out of a fairlane. Now this got me thinking as to why its so cheap! Ill check the k's on the car, but are the signs of a worn diff just noise? Ive never had a LSD diff, so Im not to sure what to expect. Also, I currently have a 3.23 SS; Is the difference going to be that big? For $150 I think its a bargin. I wanted to get 3.45 ratio's, is there a huge difference in performance from a 3.23 to a 3.45? Lastly, if it was to sh!t itself, is it costly to get fixed? I guess I can always keep my current diff as a backup.

What gears do you have ATM?
a 3.23 SS. I wouldn't bother unless you don't want to increase your acceleration and want to spin 2 instead of 1 wheel. It is cheap but depending on the way it was driven the LSD might be on the way out and the you will be back to 3.23 SS.

thats the thing...its probably worth the $150 just taking the risk. And yes I do want more acceleration. But everyone seems to get 3.45.
Will the LSD make that much difference?

LSD won't make a difference unless ur having traction problems.

Is it pricey to get different gears put in?

LSD will just drive both wheels instead of one, so all it does is give you more grip. So as it has been said it is only going to help you take of if you are spinning the wheels at the moment. It will help out in the wet for sure. Also good for drifting

You will be able to launch harder due to more traction but in gear acceleration will be the same.

if you don't get wheel spin it will not help at all.
IMO - get the diff reco'd with 3.45 gears fitted.

I think i will still get it as its a good price...how much would new gears be?
The whole reason that I am considering it is because of the price, if gears end up being to much then im better off finding one that comes with 3.45

I got a EA Ghia 3.23 LSD for 100bux from a wrecker and installed myself.
My one was pretty worn and really needed a good reshim/rebuild as the LSD action reeally wanst consistent enough. I imagine the one your getting will be no different. If youve never had experience with LSD then be careful, but ill tell you that with that manual they are the best fun ever, get ready to start sliding |

My XR6 3.45 LSD was $250 not installed. It cost me $20 worth of red rooster to have it installed my sunny and doug.
It works perfect as far as I can tell. We put new oil in it while we were at it as well.

It will bolt into any EB2-EL, and can be made to bolt into an EA (with different trailing arm bushes and tailshaft). However, bolting it into anything earlier than an EF will mean you will need to adapt the brakes to suit, and figure out something for a handbrake. |

Lower Trailing arms have to me moddifed to have EB bush's at the Diff end, and EA ones at the car mounting end. Upper dont need to me moddified. You also have to have a EB Tailshaft or swap the diff flange off and fit the EA style

Ive just left it for the time being DOH! Decided i needed more power rather than traction first. 50bux is fine for the install, sounds alrite. Keep in mind that EA diff is teh weaker 25spline version (EB or ED cant rememba started using 28spline). Personally, im just gonna get an ED SS and chuck in a minispool. |
