Default Trolley Jack weight limit

I'm looking at getting a trolley jack for my car as i dont trust those dodgy little scissor jacks.

Basically the one i was looking at is $99 for a pack including
- Trolley Jack (1650kg)
- Axle Stands (2500kg)
- Wheel chocks

Basically is the weight specs ok for an EF XR6 and does that price seem about right?

I wouldn't use those small ones. I've seen them tip over.

As long as it's big it'll do. I have a 2000kg.

I agree go for a bigger one - after all it should last you a very long time so it's worth spending the money

i got one of the 1550kg ones but i only baught it to do the suspention so i didnt spend huge money and i got some stands so the car cant fall on me i thing im going to buy ramps as i think i well then have every thing i need but yess i would never truse been under the car with just the jack from the boot. its just dumb to use that one but sounds like a fair price just when u use the jack always use the stands, it may never fall but atleast if it dose your going to be safe

Make sure the jack you get can go down very low I had one that was to high at it's lowest to fit under my XR

Long reach is better to , don't buy it to do one job on one car ,you will end up just waisting your money

Well im not buying it for any specific job that needs doing and thought i may as well get one as i can use it on my next cars as well. I have never really done any of my own work on the car and want to start learning/doing some stuff basic stuff like oil changes, changing springs etc. Obviously it will also be a better choice when i take off my wheels off for whatever reason.

So basically what you guys are saying is go for a bigger trolley jack than 1650kg i.e 2000kg?

Yep for around $120 you can buy the bigger jack..The one that controls by twisting handle.. Much much safer too..

In the paper the other day there was a snippet about a guy who got crushed under his Citroen, apparently the Hydro suspension they have gave out and flattened him.

yep, never rely (spelling) on just a jack to support the car, remember safety first, chock all wheels front and back, and when using a hydraulic trolley jack, always look for leaking oil, and but a chassis stand next to it for added support

i have a k-mart 1900 kg job, it works great, though i should change the oil in it. I've used it soo many times, i know others with the same jack and they have worked theres hard too with no probs. It's fairly big but not too big and gets under very low cars with the handle taken off.
