I've had a look for this answer myself. The conclusion I came to, as sort of suggested above, is its a name coined in the US (for reasons unknown) for the modular engine V8's used in Lincolns. Which someone in Australia decided to re-use for AU Falcons. Again for no particular reason;"...The 4-valve DOHC version of the Modular engine was introduced in the 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII as the 4.6 L Four-Cam V8. Lincoln marketed the engine under the name InTech after 1995..."I couldn't find a mention of the name Intech in my book;"Ford Australia - The Cars and the People Who Built Them."This Wikipedia page comes the closest;"Ford Australia redesigned the I-6 again, naming it the Intech, in 1998 alongside the introduction of the Ford Falcon (AU)...".And some related info from a few other places;"...The "Intech" designation was only assigned to the 1998-2002 model years...""...The 4.0 Intech is a transitional engine...""...The new Intech engine retains the balance of an inline six and now wants to be revved above 3000rpm. The car delivers eight per cent better fuel economy and equals the economy of the 2.0-litre Escort of 1980...""...A revision on the SOHC engine first introduced with the EA in 1988, the Intech has many unique parts, including a longer rod, shorter piston, thinner valves, lower ratio rocker arms, MLS head gasket and cross-bolted oil sump. These changes did not lift the on-paper power output of the engine but did result in a higher revving engine..."(yes...I realise it's a bit of a thread mine...not to mention, not being particularly important )
