umm, in a 5 speed, the car should be dyno'd in 4th gear, as this gear represents the closest 1:1 ratio.

I can guarantee you that your car doesn't have 180rwkw in 4th gear on the dyno.

JMM strikes again!

Ai guys, this is my first one, i had extreme ignition breakup, (leaning out bad and misfiring)

I now have the leaning out / misfiring problem fixed with new wiring, also got a xr fuel reg, xr ecu, advanced timing, dont no if they would up ne thing, but without misfiring now, i hope for a extra 7kw, the dyno instructor todl me the ignition breaking up like the way it did, could cost me 10rwkw, so im yet to take it back, the first run 132.9kw @ 3rd gear and 126rwkw in 4th @ 150km/h

- Grechie

EDIT, heres the video, taken on mobile fone, sorry bout the quality, its pretty crap, but u can hear the misfiring and ignition breaking up, infact u think its the liimter at one stage, then the revs increase that tiny bit more and stop...enjoy

5speedeb, you should know by now that the JMM is very very generous when it comes to dynoing their products. Before you get tooo excited, try dynoing it elswere and see what you get. I'm pretty sure swoopa had his supercharged xr dyno'd on the JMM dyno @ about 190-200rwkw, only to get about 170rwkw on the hallam performance dyno. The most i've EVER seen a dev5 hit was 160rwkw, which is still impressive, but it's far from what they claimed yours pulled. Your car is probably around this figure, which is bloody powerful either way....

About 8 months old. Going to have it done again soon with an injector/valve clean (hooked up to ~1litre of solvent and run through the rails etc for half hour) catback exhaust and tickford snorkel done, going to check plugs and leads soon... Would be really nice to break 130rwkw relatively stock.

Nice dyno run thats for sure buddy :
If he showed me a dyno sheet, that were the result of a proper dyno run, i would be praising him. But 3rd gear is NOT the right gear to dyno a car in.

the higher gearing that 3rd gear has, would be causing the wrong data to be gathered from the dyno itself. 4th gear in a Manual, and 3rd gear in an Auto is the CORRECT was to dyno a car.

The places that do it in 3rd, are giving their customers the wrong readings, and essentially lying.

4th in a manual and 3rd in an auto is the only way to get the most accurate TRUE reading of your engines real power.

umm its not a lie if they have in BIG BOLD letters that the reading was done in 3RD
I have never personaly had mine dynoed but when i do i would like to see what the engines max capable power output is aswell, not just in a fixed gear...afterall i do use all gears

it doesn't quite work like that.
the reason ppl are saying 4th gear is because most gear box's have a 1:1 ratio, and in the case of the T5, its 4th gear.
if its done in the 1:1 gear then theres less torque multiplication, and comparable losses to other cars also using the 1:1 gear.

your engine has the same amount of power in all gears, its just the losses are less in the lower gears thanks to the gear ratios.

so the idea is to pick the gear thats closest to 1.1 no matyer how many gears ...is that right

in order to remove one of the variables, yes picking 1:1 gearbox ratio gives a more comparable value.
yes there are still other variables but the idea is to minimise them.

for our cars, the auto is 3rd gear, and manual 4th gear.
how ever this is not always a viable option due to the speed limiter kicking in mid way through the 1:1 gear on our cars.

Lol give him a break... he's from Pt Lincoln.

They get 5 hectares to a full tank of kerosine and that's the way they like it. They also measure power output in rear wheel megawatts
