That Bloody Dog!

I am at my wits end with a dog somewhere in the Neighborhood which won't stop barking. I am in Qld, what would be the process to get it shut up, or P1ssed off.

I understand the obvious would be to go Crabbing and ""invite"" the dog along, but I don't dislike animals particularly, just getting the sh1ts with the ongoing barking!!

Any ideas?????

*sigh* same problem. I just turn the fan on when i go to sleep, sounds better then a dog barking. Ive had suggestions from friends though.

- Air rifle
- Poisoned meat
- Ring the council

You have to write to the local council about it with at least a weeks worth of barking times written out.

Can take up to three complaints sometimes..
But why not go for a walk around the neighbourhood and see exactly where the dog is from. Put a nice warning letter in their letterbox saying you have notified the council etc... Sometimes that can work..

I've had the same. I suggest firstly find out where it it. Then talk to the owner, they may not know that there is a problem. This will result in two possibiltys
a) they go "sorry" and keep the dog quite
b) the tell you to cram it.
If b happens, inform the council. Take it from there.

We tried that. he has a pick handle outside his house and has threatened to smash who ever told on him, which was my gfs dad. I hope he tries, i really do. Thatll be the end of him and his little gay dogs.

Apparently me yelling at my neighbours to shut the dog up wasn't quite a hint enough, so I rang the council, and that is how I found out about the letter crap...
Did the letter thing, but only got through the first week.. Sent it.. then lost the plot.. Climbed up the fence and let it rip.. Scared the living daylights out them but could either be the threat of drowning their mongrel mutt, or shoving down their throats with excessive force.. Not sure which..

But the dog has been very quiet ever since and all the other neighbours asked me if I was having an extremely bad day that particular day.. I scared quite a few apparently.. I just don't understand how or why :newangel:

I sympathise with you, but at the end of the day, they are dogs.... dogs woof, it's what they do- it's instinct. Don't blame the dogs, and don't hurt the dogs.

My dog loves to woof, but I control her, because I'm a responsible dog owner. Blame the owner for not controlling their dog, and act on that. Councils love acting on dog complaints. God knows they've got bugger all else to do with their time.

Shoot the dogs with an air rifle, poison them, and beat them up. Yeah, that would be a real MANLY thing to do to a defenceless creature a 1/4 of your size.

I'm with you.......dogs do not bark for no reason....are the owners leaving the dog tied up without water or food...has it got plenty of room to go poo and wee...dogs do not like having to do this near where they are kept.

Is it being left alone for long periods...dogs just like us can get bored and frustrated..

Is it being kept in a confined space with no outside stimulation.

There are many reasons why a dog will bark..as has been said go for a walk when it happens pinpoint the house try and see how the dog is being kept.

There are two avenues the council or the RSPCA.

Please do not blame the dog...by all means blame the owner.

Hey.. I have a dog, and yes she barks a fair bit, but hey, what can you do, We try to keep her inside as much as we can. Dogs will be dogs, and thats just what they do. What about neighbours, that go flying around the neighbourhoods at all hours in their cars, nothing you can do to stop it. My suggestion, go around talk to the neighbours, we brought our dog a bark collar, and that has cut down the barking a fair bit. The worst thing is when people walk past and stand at the fence, its stupid things like this which encourage the dogs.

I don't blame the dog for stupid owners, but the anger has made them keep their dog quiet.

I too own a dog, but if he is barking 'excessively' I make sure to see why, and I stop him. There is a huge difference between 'normal' barking and just irritating the heck out of everyone.
The normal you can put up with, that is the dogs job after all....

I wouldnt call it defencless, its the biggest doberman ive ever seen and it bites the owner all the time and he does nothing about it. Try having no sleep for a week because the stupid dog barks till 4am in the morning at something so stupid as hearing the wind blow. Id gladly put a few slugs in it.

Sleep deprivation is a really really bad thing (hence my climbing the fence episode lol)...
Will any of the other neighbours join in on the complaint campaign??
If not, then just hound (excuse the pun) the council unitl something is done.

I do know how bad it is to have no sleep because of someone's dog yapping all night (and day)!!

Mate i have owned dobeys all ( most ) of my life and biting the owner ? it must be just playing. (you would not want to be on the end of one for real) i had a large male doberman that went ferral and decided it wanted to bite my hand and ( and ripped it open ) the next day it was off to be a guard dog in a car yard.

but in that my current doberman gets out at night and yes will go apesheite but slowly i am training the dog that it is quietly time and i will get there but and here's the but, the dog goes ape at guess what, the neighbours bloody cat, so if the niegbour wants quiet, simple put your darn cat away and you will have it.

these dogs just dont bark because they want to.

My dog has the most signature bark/howl ever, he's a beagle.. he does it all the time but at reasonable times.. DAYTIME.. my next door neighbours dogs bark non stop but as soon as they start they put them inside..

But as most people are saying...they bark for a reason... no food, no water, bored, want to play etc etc etc..

We're not going to talk if we have nothing to say are we?

you can contact council, like everyone else said, and they will get served a notice and requirements to be met, my mother inlaw got one of these about 6 months back.

my neighbor bought this nice looking Husky 3 months back, and when they leave for work in the morning, it cries and sooks, ALL DAY !

i've got an alaskan malmute and at the moment he won't stfu constantly whinging and howling all day and night and keeps trying to break out (there must be a dog on heat around here) we have resorted to keeping him inside which isn't fun as he is 65kg and stands 180cm on his hind legs yet he still howls just not as much. As much as it may annoy the neighbours it's drives me and the missus up the ИИИ wall also, we have a 3 month old which the dog constantly wakes up so not much sleep going on here atm

If the owner is that ИИИИty that he will smash anyone who approaches him, call the council andor RSPCA.

A few years ago, we had a neighbour come and complain to us that our dog was barking alot at night.. and she was. THreathen to call the cops, council, RSPCA. We told him if he would simply keep HIS CAT from coming over and drinking from MY DOG'S BOWL, then my dog wouldnt be barking. He still threatened to call the cops, etc. We told him that if he did, then by all means, but we would report his cat for trespassing on our property and stealing our water. LOL.

After that, his cat never came over and my dog didnt bark anymore, haha

i try my darndest to stop him barking out of respect for the neibors...even tho they are all nosey pestlings....

to those that think posining meat or using ratsack is funny or effective....i hope you choke on your own bile....lowest act of all.....have the decenty to bring up your issues with the neibors.......that action is totally evil.....animals can't be brutalised for being animals.....

I agree. I am sure my dog barks at the procession of cats which COME INTO MY PROPERTY AD HOC WHICH I CANNOT COMPLAIN ABOUT. Whereas my dog has to be registered and CANNOT ROME THE NEIGHBOURHOOD. What to do??? The cats ???? and ???? in my garden and set my dog off barking. Also think about it a dog is an insurance policy, when it barks there's usually something around. Burglars are reluctant to enter a property which has dog/s in or next to it

Dog's are a great insurance policy. In my prior house I got burgled. I used to find weird things such as my gates open all the time when I got home prior. Got two I guess big dogs? Retriever and a boxer. Never came home to open gates again ;)

Had to find homes for the dogs when moving to this house. No room for dogs to run around :( I didn't care about loosing the retriever. I hated the retreiver but finding the boxer a home hurt.

Dogs are fantastic deterants

mnm96: document all the times the dogs are barking for atleast two weeks. Forward the documents to your local council and make sure you keep a copy for yourself. Don't stop documenting the times after you've sent them into the council.

Yes they do. We have 2 dogs. Golden Retriever and a border collie/kelpie cross. She barks fo no reason at all. Sometimes its just one little bark or sometimes shell go off her head cos the wind blew.

Usually its something more though like a roo or something.

I think have a chat to your local council and see what the go is. Leave a letter and all that crap.
