i found rust after removing my mudflaps.
the rust is starting where the plastic of the mudflap sits over the metal, must have trapped water in there.

Heh... pull off the plastic inner wheel arch guard. Have a look at the dirt that builds up on the inside of the panel.
Then picture that after a day's driving in the wet. I pulled about 500g of solid mud from inside either side of my car. Amazing more of these things arent showing telltale signs of cancer yet...

Yeah, first thing I do when i get a new car like the XF - ED is pull the front guards off and clean out the compost

Next to the drain holes under the sill below the front of the front doors both sides. A little cancer there on mine.

I had a little bit between the left rear door and the guard, right at the bottom, just above the sill. There's foam in there for some stupid reason so any water that gets in there stays in there. I had it repaired by the panelbeaters. They did a great job.

Mine did the same thing, i just cleaned it off gently with steel wool then put rust converter on it then painted it. looks fine now.
