I don't think the TD04 will be suitable for a 4.0L falcon (i'm assuming thats what it would go on?). As far as i know it's the WRX turbo (a 2.0L flat 4). Also, all of the turbo's claiming to be "new" T3/T04 hybrids on ebay, for less than $400 you should be wary of. I have read on many forums when doing my own research about the poor design thus self destructing poperties of the ZY and XSpower turbo's, and these cheap hybrids appear to be ZY...

so in your oppinion its the overall design of them ie ballancing ect that causes them to die not the fact the bearings are poor ? if that being the case there is nuthing that can be done for them other than make an expensive book weight

I'm not sure about the TD04 turbo that you've mentioned, but the majority of the cheaper turbo's on eBay are made by XSpower or ZY turbo's. I read an review of these turbo's written by a turbo workshop in the US, with them stating the same thing you said, it's essentially an expensive paperweight... Apparently the rotating mass of the turbo wasnt bad at all (shaft, bearings, compressor + turbine) it was the compressor housing being literally glued together that was shoddy... Hit boost just once and BLAM!

Good ol truck turbos should be generally more robust, stuff like T04s pretty much.
Alot of the "hybrids" are crap and you jsut have to run the risk unless you can see it for yourself before buying. Still a few bargains to find out there though, dont be disheartened |
