Hey guys
Ive been thinking of something to do to liven up the car, eventually I want to do for the sporty/luxury look. So it just happens that there are some green XR scoops for sale. Is the Ghia bonnet any different to the XR one? Im hoping not because it would make life alot easier. Has anyone else done this? Any picsgetting around? Im tempted to get a sequential scoop aswell but that might be a bit too much. I also plan to get a tickford kit minus the rear wing soonish to complete the look. Thanks for your help! :

I'm unsure about the sides of the bonnet profile, but keep in mind that high-series EF/EL bonnets (Fairmonts, etc) have a bulge in the middle, whereas XR bonnets don't have this bulge. It might look "odd" having the vents on a high-series bonnet, but I guess no-one can give you a definitive answer until pictures of such a setup can be offered.

ah bugger...thats what I was worried about, I dont know if I want to go to a standard bonnet (not that there is anything wrong with that )
The Ghia grill has to stay, thats a definate. Was just hoping that someone else has done this before so I could see some pics.

ghia grill is apart of a fairmont+ bonnet, it wont bolt to an xr bonnet...
scoops on the other hand would look good, and provide bit of cai

I dont like the EL GT scoop thing unless you have the whole kit, so I might steer clear of it. But you bring up a good point, wasn't the EL GT based on a fairmont? What scoops does it have again? Or was it just the EB GT that had a big middle one and the sides. /off to google

Problem being XR bonets have the edges rolled in around where the holes are cut for the vents, which im pretty sure means you can't just cut a hole and put genuine ones in there, same with scoops I think.

Well seeing as montyv8 is off buying parts.....
I don't like them at all on high series bonnets.

a few months ago i saw a EL fairmont ghia at a servo station, i noticed that he had the two EL xr scoops on his bonnet, they were on the higher part of the bonnet, unlike montyv8. i was speaking to the owner about the car and he told me that he had asked for the scoops to be fitted, and tickford had done it for him.
And they did look supriseingly good |

IMO, if they were the EL ones and flush fitting, they'd look good.. ive never been a fan of the EF vents anyway

I haven't been on fordmods for aaagggeesss but remember someone selling the kits. And I agree wayne, EF ones are not as good as EL ones, they just seem alot smoother.

I have the high series bonnet on my EL also and was considering doing a shaker type set up like you can get on those DJR BA's.
I'ts only a six but i thought if i could get a large piece of stainless steel and shape it to accept a pod filter boxed and mounted directly to the throttle body and then a removable lid with a low scoop sticking out through a hole in the bonnet. Not sure about legality but as i have access to the fabricating equipment and Auto Barn have K&N pods on sale for $60 i will give it a go and see how it looks without cutting the bonnet and if it will fit without protruding too far i will go ahead. |

That el with the xr vents just doesn't look right to me. I stuck my vents on the centre bulge on my Fairmont and I like it.

Hey Polyal, once I get my car back from the panel beater I'll take some photos, I'm going just the one sequential scoop on my bonnet for that off centre look. I've downgraded to a low series bonnet thou. Should be done hopefully at the end of this week

That is exactly what i want to do but as i have the high series bonnet with the bulge i should be able to fit a nice polished box in there. |

yeah my 'vents' look crap, I hate them. they were on the car when i got it. its blatant rice, as there are no holes under them. except for the ones some dumbass drilled to bolt the vents on.... they're the one thing on the car i don't like.
as a few others have said, vents (proper ones or not) dont suit high series bonnets. makes it look too 'busy'. heres a couple of pics for you to have a chuckle at: oh and someone feel free to buy the car from me ;) |

It's just not necessary? And if your not going to cut into the bonnet, why bother sticking them on? Love that colour thou

I don't believe Futuras have high series bonnets, unless you've changed it. High series is Fairmont, Fairlane or LTD.
