hey i was at work the otherday on my break admiring my ride when i noticed that my arial was still up. so i went over and turned the car on hoping something would happen but it didnt. i hear the electric motor working but the areal doesnt move and wont stay up when i pull it up. my boss said it happened to her el fairmont. has it happened to anyone on here?
how do you fix it ? do you have to take of the front side pannel? any help appreciated cos my fairmont is slowly becoming a falcon : |

You just have to take off the front left wheel then unscrew the mud cover thing and you should be able to access the arial and replace whats broken.

If the motor is working, it is either a stripped cog or the nylon insert that pushes the aerial up is broken.
You can buy a replacement mast and nylon insert ( all in one )for about $45 from ford. You take it off as FRDXR6 has explained you also need to unplug the aerial lead from inside the passenger side footwell by removing side kick panel. Before buying the part pull it apart and have a look first, the cover comes off the wind up part easily, just watch out that the nylon insert doesn't spring out at you like a snake!!!!! |

so do i take the motor completely out? i have the wheel/mud cover off and the screws for the motor but it wont move very far at all so whats next?

yer got it in the end cheers for ya help. the nylon/plastic insert had broken so i picked a new mast and insert up from super cheap for $26 put it in and works a treat. the fairmont remains. lol . thanks again for yous help the forums are great for that stuff
