Try a web scanner, it might pick up the name of the virus so you can get the remover.

google for "free anti-virus" or "free virus scan" until you find something that picks up the virus.
failing that boot from your windows cdrom, format your hard drive completely and re-install.

First install and run the Avast Virus Cleaner which you can download here
http://www.avast.com/eng/down_cleaner.html then install the free version of Avast Home Edition which stays registered for 12 months available here http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Iv'e had it installed on my PC for over a year now and have found it very good, I haven't had any virus problems since putting on my system (unlike some others I could name, including some so called big names!!), Avast is one of the better antivirus products out there imho. |

I recently bought Trend Micro PC Cillin Internet Security 2006 and I give it a big thumbs up. The security was so hardcore I couldn't even connect to the net when I first installed it!. My computer has been clean ever since. You have lots of options in it. Norton is simple to use but leaves a lot to be desired I'm afraid. When you can download Spybot which is a free program and it picks up more than a program (Norton) which has had god knows how many developers working on it, it is pretty bad.

if you have one, make sure you use the removal tool in safe mode and yes, turn off system restore. Too many viruses and trojans love system restore to come back and pi** you off!
I've never heard of avast. I use AVG which is adequate. hahah this laptop came with 90 days of Norton.. so I deleted it. Norton = cpu hog!!!

Why does picking up a virus have to be as a result of surfing for pink bits....?!
Mrs Ringo surfed a bunch of home improvement sites a few weeks ago and picked up spyware. I delete cookies and clean out the temporary internet folder every time I use our PC - I was told years ago that virus and other stuff can sit there ready to activate next time to you switch on the pc.... |

I recommend AVG, it's free and it works. They have anti virus and anti spyware.
www.grisoft.com There is a trick though, they don't advertise the fact that they have a free version. Go to the web site and then use the search in the top right hand corner for 'Free AVG'. The free version 7.5 works a treat. |
