Default Going going gone

Hi all,

My PC is super infected with Spyware, no matter what friggin program I run.

Currently I have:
Spysweeper
MS Antispyware
Sygate firewall
AVG anti virus

I just downloaded Spyware Blaster but that does stuff all, and I got the latest PC User mag cd and stuck Spyware Doctor on the PC. It states it's a "full version". I scanned the PC and it found 12 things... but refused to quarantine, fix or delete them cos I hadn't PAID for it.

So I am after more ideas... what else can I try?

HELLLLLLLLP! I have the feeling we may need to get all our personal stuff off the HD and format it, start again :(

Try Ad-Aware - http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10...age&tag=button
&
Spybot-S&D - http://www.spybot.info/en/mirrors/index.html

Those should do the job if you use them both, between the two of them they should pick up and remove it all, and they're both free

Good luck!

Between that, Spybot and ad-aware, you should be able to get rid of everything...

Oh yeah, you might find the Immunize section of Spybot-S&D to be useful, you can use that to immunize your system from all known spyware - certainly beats trying to rid your system of it after it gets on there!

*edit* I just remembered, if Spybot discovers anything it can't remove at that time, it will ask you if you want to run it on next system startup, which is a good thing to do, that way it gets ran before anything has a chance to start and has been able to remove everything on peoples computers that I've tried it on. Easy this way too, it just starts and scans without you having to do anything other then re-start the computer.

But the most important thing is to ensure that your anti-virus and anti-malware (spybot, ad-aware) are all as up-to-date as possible.

Have you managed to get the most recent updates on all the spyware applications that you are running??

Umm which spyware! The program mentioned will zap most spyware but not all, if you have screen hi-jackers etc the are often reloaded at startup or by trojan exe. Read results screens of the scanners, what infections do the say they found. Ad-aware, or spybot will usually be sufficent to locate most things. Are your adware scanners up to date. I'm talking days old not months or year.

When we know what specifically is attacking your PC , we can suggest ways to repair it.

boot your computer in safe mode and then run your antivirus and spyware removal programs.

Once you get rid of all that spyware, download Mozilla Firefox if your not using it already.

Although there are still some nasty sites out there, you'll get a lot less spyware than you used to. Then when you run Spybot and Adaware you'll get nothing showing up except for when someone has opened an explorer window.

Buying some antivirus software such as PCillin and not relying on AVG which does stop some virii but will still let some rather nasty ones through will help enormously. My mum learnt this the hard way, her computer was at our house at least once a fortnight for a good cleaning. On one occasion we had to reformat her hard drive. She lost all her pics and emails from friends some of which had some real sentimental value to her. Since she started using Mozilla and PCillin, she hasn't had a problem.

I had backed up her emails and documents onto my PC though, so her pics were safe, but she didn't know that. ;)

Hey thanks all, This is what I ended up doing:

Searched both profiles' msconfig to check what was starting up, eradicated suspicious ones. Ran my usual spy stuff and anti virus stuff in both profiles. Then downloaded spybot and ad aware, plus a new anti virus (thanks to Stevo). Ran them in each profile. Restarted. Defragged. Restarted. Ran each program a second time in each profile. Restarted.

All seems good now... the second time round it didn't find anything on either profile.

I have just acquired Mozilla and intend on using it in place of IE. Any other suggestions for an Outlook Express imitator besides Incredimail?

Thanks all, you rule

What about Pegasus, never used it myself as I've had no worries with incredimail, but wouldn't mind getting feedback about it.

OMG not Incrediblybloodystupidmail!!!! :P

That's how my mum was getting most of her virii, well that and constantly chatting in a chat room that was very unsecure.

I used to use Pegasus and never had any problems with it, you can use a program called 'Mailwasher' so you can view your mail before allowing it into your Outlook Express inbox. It lets you bounce spam, it alerts you to potential spam and if you read something and don't want it in your inbox, just delete it.

I've been using it for a couple of years now, if I can set it up and use it, anyone can. :

Chalk up another vote for Thunderbird, not only is it made by the same people as Firefox, features some great spam filtering and is a lot more secure and less full of bugs then incredimail or outlook express, it has a really cool name too :

I think that mozilla seems good so far Anything's better than IE.

And yes, just downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird for my email, I am willing to try anything so long as the pc behaves.

It started up this morning, after my daughter had been on it, and yet again it was slow and was running some program (I could hear it)... so yet again I scanned, found another 10 bugs. I shall ensure she uses firefox.

Two rules in my house...

1: If you touch Kazaa/Imesh/any peer sharing rubbish you will not only die a slow painful death, but you will die it a second time...

2: It's much easier to buy a DVD burner and reformat.

Yes I am seriously considering buying a second hard drive as storage, when you got 20GB of music and only a 60GB HD you run out of space.

So when I get one, I will transfer everything over and format.

Also I do occasionally use Warez, but that's not the source of our spyware. I haven't used it for a few weeks. It's the websites we've been going to, plus emails.

Use spybot, its the best one out there.. Oh and if you have spybot and Ad-aware both installed i'd take one off.

They conflict with each other when searching for spyware, and dont end up picking half of it up.

i was using ad-aware, and it wasnt that good. you could scan, then re-scan immediately after it deleted everything, and it would find more. my computer has very very little spyware to begin with.

im now using Microsofts anti spyware BETA, and it is killing it. finds everything, and removes it. i run that at 2am everyday, auto update definitions, and send all findings to spynet.....cant lose with this program.

i also use limewire, and that is not a problem for me...its the bs websites that do it.....my anti virus software also stops viruses from websites immediately.

Clear and present rubish!!! what ad-aware was showing (if you were actually running the up to date SE personal version)was negigable objects, places for spyware to lurk !!! Or ad-aware was find the result of a still present trojan that M$crosoft has not even detected.
