Default Sports Shooting

I went for my first shoot at the local gun club on Thursday night, had an absolute blast! Learning to shoot was great, the people were great will definately make this a regular thing.

Anyone else here into sports shooting? And what kind of scores are you shooting?

On the night I went, we did 50m stand, 25m rapid fire (found this hard), 25m meter stand, 2nd 50m stand, and 50m sit

My best score was a 64.1 on the 2nd 50m stand.

Guns are bad....mkay

If you even touch a gun you are a dangerous criminal and should be sent to locked up for ever and then sent to councilling and then made to attend "fluffy animal" lectures.

I've been shooting twice in my life.

9mm 25m prone and standing
5.56mm 300m, 200, and 100m in prone, standing, kneeling and sitting positions.

I prefer 300m prone.

Within shooting itself I was amazed how smoothly I went from the .22 rifle to the Glock .40. It's amazing to see within my class those with a little shooting experience went really well.

Target shooting is fun, I don't care with a loud boomstick or a electrified stapler. It's just a natural step up from the bow and arrow.

Pity it has fallen into the wrong hands at times and used to hurt and kill many innocent people and thanks to Michael Moore Port Arthur I look at firearms in a different light. I'm also glad there is some firearms control out there, or else it would of made work alot harder, theres enough danger with knieves.

Well they are seperate, but one guy shows us how fascinated a nation has become with firearms and the other shows what one guy can do with a firearm.

Then just watch the Chaser's War on Everything when they visit a gun show in America, what a weird fascination.

I guess I'm the only one that finds firearms fun on the range on one hand and on the other an object that should be treated with the utmost respect whilst not pointed down range and at a piece of paper and that such a simple piece of metal/plastic/wood can be so deadly.

Right on Ozfords
Being raised on a farm , firearms were a part of life , BUT , my father was "just so strict" on gun safety , something I will be forever greatful for . I got my first Air-rifle at 8 and by 10 I was a pretty good shot with a .22 but they were pretty old rifles , so Dad bought me a new .22 for my 13th birthday.

In my early 20's I went shooting with a couple of my city mates & they swore they'd never go shooting with me again because I was "too safety concious", fine by me , they were cowboys . Doesn't matter if it's Target or Game shooting , both are fun as long as safety is a priority (it's always an "unloaded" gun that go's off)

I started prac pistol (IPSC) back in 92 when I was 12 and shot pistols for 9 years. The bureauocracy is out of control and it ended up taking the fun out of it completely. My Dad and I did it for fun and too many people take the competitive side far too seriously. We gave up the pistols and just stuck to good old shooting on a station we go to a few times a year to help with a bit of vermin control.

It's a great bonding thing for my old man and me, but I was always brought up the right way as far as firearms awareness goes- it's very important. I was actually going to be a gunsmith.......

Held my gun license longer than my driver's license and have been shooting since before I first started school.......

We have a great gun club at mendooran, I have a collection of about 13 vastly different firearms (from muzzle loader to really fast .22's) For a challeng I take a mossberg maverick (bolt action 12g goose gun with double choke and rifle sights) up to the club for a shoot - you learn to work a bolt pretty quick!

I enjoy sporting shooting. This Wednesday going up Bendigo way to shoot some skeet, maybe some small game. Saturday going to Lara to shoot some more skeet and muzzle loaders! Challenging sport nearly anyone can enjoy.

In relation to the politics of guns, I find the people who fear them, have never usually even handled one. Guns are a tool, they don't kill someone, people do!

Mate, anyone who doesn't think like that shouldn't have a licence.

Apparently some bloke in Queensland has just purchased 10,000 unused Mk3 and is shipping them to Australia soon from Italy. They were supplied to the Italian government when they went against the Germans in WW2 but were never used, no surprise. May be some good rifles, good prices!!

Yea , flappist , was just reading up on that , but wouldn't want to be "on the recieveing end" of either : see where the old "volley sight" could be used from 1800 to 3,550 metres (although not accurate) . mine has the mount but the sight is missing . I've also got a bandolier (sp) & 20 clips with it.

What sort of costs are you looking at to get into sports shooting ?

How much is the licence, the club membership etc ? Can you hire pistols at the clubs once you have your licence etc ?
