Had the opportunity to test drive a BA 2002 XR6 on the weekend. Did the full trade-in evaluation and all that stuff. Here's my observations.......
My car: 1997 EL Ghia, 170,000km, full service history, LPG/Petrol, Heritage Green/Cappachino vs 2002 BA XR6, Auto, 105,000km, full service history, Venom/Charcoal XR6 goes better and stops better than the Ghia (DER!) XR6 is very plain inside XR6 - lots of road noise - either cheap tyres or diff noise - not sure Ghia is quieter Ghia is much nicer to drive XR6 is $21,000 Offered me $4,000 for the Ghia Now i know there is no value in used cars (unless, of course, you are a dealer trying to sell one) but 4k? - Why on earth would i get rid of the Ghia at that changeover price - it is reliable, comfortable, quiet, and costs me $35.00 a week to run. The XR6 was fun to drive but i think the Ghia will be staying. |

as much as the new cars are nice and all, i find them quite boring now. especially the BA series XR's as every tom ***** and harry has one!!
keep the ghia!! the BA interiors are nice except not much to them, quite boring with not much trim. for example the EB Ghia has inserts on the doors with nice padded foam for an armrest, the BA etc is just material over hard plasitic and has that hard kinda feeling. another example is the back of the front seat of the BA, hard plastic! why i do not understand!! older cars, like the E Series, have more character anyway!

Hmm...there is no doubting an e series value for money. But as with any car they do have issues later on in life.
Supposedly with a new car this is minimised, also a warranty helps. As for the plastics quality, e series is nothing to rave about, but the B series is nothing spectacular either.

You got offered 4k? I got offered 1500 for my 98 EL Mont, haha.. Keep the Ghia, you get 17 grand to spend on shopping for bits n pieces

I was very seriously looking at doing the same thing recently. I spoke to a dealer and he said I would get about 5k trade in for my 97 EL Ghia V8 with 148,000k on a 03 BA XR6. In the end I figured the BA wasn't that good a car to warrant the change over.

Fair call guys, you also have to think that you could invest the money wisely and be much better off in the long run. Most of that $17k vanishes into thin air after a few years.

2002 BA won't have much of a warrenty left anyway.
also i wouldn't be overly keen on owning a 2002 BA.

No way, a series 1 BA has as many issues as a series 1 EA early on!

I have a BA Pursuit that runs 11's and is great to drive, we have a VY Commo wagon as a family car, and i have just bought a EL Ghia to use as a daily driver.
I have always loved the EL Ghias, it has more features than my FPV and i find it more relaxing/comfortable to drive.

I find the BA interiors very sterile aswell. Can't describe but it just gets boring, no personality i suppose, nothing to look at??? i dunno. Definately keep the ghia

with the BA interiors, once you've seen one you've seen them all. not many people do much to newer cars interiors. i love something unique and different. something that stands out from the crowd!
i could be wrong but how many EB Falcons do you see with black interiors like what im doing??!! out of the majority not many! cheers
