Question starting problems on 91 ea-s

hi Guys

I was driving along in town today and the 3.9 5 spd mpfi decided to stall at some traffic lights. then the beast just wont start again, got the ract out:

they put some jump leads on and same thing just a click when you turn the ignition key. He cheked the spark plugs (high tension cables i think??) said they were fine then took the fuel hose off got me to try to start it and said the fuel pump had low pressure, sprayed some can of stuff out of a can into the top of the head, and it jumps back to life. the alternator was charging o.k but he said battery may be on the way out.

part 2:

I drove straight to repco and buy a new battery at 105 bucks and the car wont start again took the fuel hose off put it back on again and away it went.

so has anyone else had any problems like this? is it the fuel pump on the way out or what?

any/all help and advice appreciated.

Andy

my fuel pump died...

chances are you probably need another one... get an eb2 onwards one if you do get a newie as the sender for the guage on these is more accurate, or u can just get the pump without the sender and put the pump into your existing sender, i've got an ED pump in an eb2 sender in my ea, lol...

Yep it is most likely your fuel pump.. i had the same problem i check the fuel before it went into the fuel rail and there was none there. So i checked the fuel pump and the power cables from the battery to the fuel pump had burnt off.. black charcole dunno what happend must have been a short. Replaced fuel pump and works fine now. starts first time.

Hang on doesnt the EB2/ED sender unit ommit a different OHM reading to the EA/EB1 version?

(According to the Ford Factory Manual)
FULL TANK
EA/EB - 200.7 ohms
EB2/ED - 149 ohms

and so on, etc

Wouldnt this mean you would get a unofficial Reading?

I don't know but my sender is from an eb (i just assumed eb 2 cos it's a different design to the EA sender I had with cfi) and it's spot on accurate ie it reads full when it's full, and from empty on the guage it takes almost a full tank worth of fuel to fill...
