Xbox360 HDTV owners please come inside *HELP*

For all those here who own 360's on high def tv's I need your help, I cant seem to set mine up to play with the component cables.


I own a Phillips 26" LCD HDTV that supports up to 720p and I've been trying to get my 360 running on it with the component cables.

They are correctly plugged into the back of the TV (red, green, blue) and I even switch the TV over to the component channel and AV cable to HDTV mode but theres nothing on the screen.



There's sound but no picture.

What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm.... have you still got the original 360 cables plugged in?? if not i'd whack em in.. without being at home to check my set up i cant confirm but im pretty sure i just plugged everything in and the 360 recognises the HD and overrides the signal to HD.... im not very technical i know but im rollin with HD and loving it!! :Reverend:

I dont own a 360 , but most consoles have a main setup menu ( like pc's bios ) , it should tell you how to access this menu in your handbook, usually this is where other settings are found too , for stuff like running the consoles in 16:9 aspect (widescreen) instead 4:3 aspect (normal rectangle tv shape ) , cheers , gl .

From what I've read, looks like my poor HDTV doesnt support the full xbox HD potential which is really a letdown seeing as though I bought it in mind to play my console at its peak performance.

I guess I'm only able to play my games in 480p resolution, which is still pretty good but I just wish I could've been able to see them in 1080i. :(

where u plug in the cable to the X360 .. theres a switch .. is that set to HDTV ??

when choosing a monitor or HDTV ... if it has HD compatitable written on it then its most likely the lowest form of it.

always consult someone in the electrical department to tell you specifically what resolution the TV can take. becoz it may say it .. but its crap.

btw.. same games will jitter and jump @ 1080i
xbox cant handle some games on that setting.

Are most of you aware that if you use your X-Box on LCD HDTV that over time you will burn an imprint on to the screen memory. That's the one thing the sales guy was pretty adamant about now that was six months ago. Guess what i now have bad ghosting on the TV and the tv tech has put it down to the x-box. Bloody thing. bj

That's the case with plasma's which are a sort of a gel base, whereas with lcd it's just a glorified computer screen with a tv tuner and unless you're going to leave a game paused for a day or two it wont scar.

i hope you werent told that when you bought it... i just came from a Panasonic training meet last night and the 1080i is only avail on bigger screens i think i remember 42" and up. (i was drunk so dont expect imediate responses)

and i remember them saying you can only get as good as the lowest qual component you have, so TV in your case is because its max is 720p, whereas a 360 supports HD

then if the xbox and tv had HDMI id be using that.

Hey everybody, guess what.... I got high def working on my TV!!

Ok, so I rang the philips customer care line cause I was ****ed off thinking that I bought a HDTV and not being able to play my 360 in HD.

The operator actually told me that to utilise high definition for my xbox360 on my lcd tv I just had to use different cables which were supplied with the TV itself.

Instead of just plugging into component, I had to hook up my component cables to a VGA cable which then went into the back on my TV.
So now I've gotten my 360 working in 720p and 1080i and it looks AMAZING! : :sm_drool:

Yeah the difference between regular TV and High Def is huge. Everything is alot more sharper and vivid. Its like I just got a new console.

ya...another great thing about changing the res is...if you were dumb(like me) and bought a huge screen for a small area....you can fix up most of the issues with being too close

picture your monitor on like 600*800 thats all grainy.....my plasma is a bit too close but putting the res at 1080 fixed it up....i could still go back another 5-10 ft....have to look around the screen lol

Hmmm its strange how all these Plasma's/LCD's don't support 1080i... Even my 18month old CRT supports 1080i

max is 720p, whereas a 360 supports HD

720p is actually defined as being HD... anything above 576i is actually HD
