hey guys, looking at buying an EL fairmont sometime next year.
my mate has a VX wagon and had been trying to convince me to get a EL Fairmont wagon! would stand out i think slammed with 18's as you dont see many around! what are their reputation as in handling and performance? can they be dropped on their *** as simple as sedans can? (springs and shortened shocks) asking as i read something about leaf springs in the rear...? cheers

handling wise, my EB wagon (auto) always handled pretty well and it was all stock, but power wise it was a weapon, kept right up with an auto ED XR6. EF would probably be quicker, also are you getting a 6 or an 8.

not really....for some reason most EF/EL Fairmont wagons i see are V8's. certainly more common with a v8 optioned than sedans are
my old EA wagon was lowered and it handled pretty good |

You would need to get the rear springs "re-set" to lower it properly. I'm not sure if anyone does aftermarket leaf springs for them...

you can buy lowered leaf springs through king springs, or just get yours reset... either option works well.
don't use lowering blocks they are gay |

they're an ok stopgap untill you can afford to get them done properly.......... if you do use blocks, dont just put the reset leaves into the too hard basket... |

mate get the wagon! I had one until recently, a Fairmont 6 and it was fantastic. A V8 would be awesome, but there's nothing wrong with the 6 at all. Get some nice rims and dump it and you got yourself a sweet ride
cheers, Julza

A slammed white EB wagon, everything colour coded except for the windows, B and C pillars (which would be black), with a chrome strip.
Polished 18s, rebuilt motor, big turbo and polished cooler, shiftkitted auto and 3.45:1 lockright diff....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Or maybe the above car but All in black except the wheels and intercooler... |

yeah ok thanks guys! my plans would be to lower it on supers and put 18" GT-P rims on it! i think then it would stand out in a crowd... just a bit!!! :P
so i would need super low springs, shortened shocks and reset leaf springs to lower it properly? anyone got pics of an EF/EL wagon dumped with rims? cheers

I had a EBII 6 cyl S pack Manual wagon, then went into a EFII V8 Auto Wagon
The 6 was a quicker car by far, V8 was very disapointing in comparison, however the exhaust note was nice and with a few mods, they can go

Should drop it to XR6 height.
But if you want to go to 105mm off the ground like your sig, you are better off going with Superlows and shortened shocks. Sorry to stray off topic Daniel, and as the other guys have said, an EL Wagon slammed on 18's would look awesome, you should definatly do it

I'd pretty much agree with what has already been said. I was originally looking for a V8 Fairmont wagon but then I found my XR6 - as soon as i saw it was manual I had to have it.
I run 16" rims/tyres on mine, I have thought about 18's but I think I'll settle for the 17's (AU II copies) - being a Tickford wagon it does sit lower (than standard) but there still is about 1.5" between the guard and the top of the tyre so it could easily go down another inch. (I was talking to someone over here in Adelaide - he said for me to get the front at the desired height and then he would reset the rears to suit for around $250.00) There's a couple of photos in my gallery if you're interested. http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...500&ppuser=608 Cheers - Go the Wagons Paul B.
