Talking Please welcome, eseries.com.au

That's right, after 3 years we have finally got the URL we wanted! All that remains is setting it up, which should only take a day or so since everyone is on board. I spent the extra to also give us e-series.com.au (with the dash) as it will prevent a lot of misunderstanding. And of course eafalcon.com will also remain a valid link to the site.

As part of the change of our default URL, there will be various graphical and other upgrades to the site. While we are at it, I think we can start to address various overdue areas which have in some cases been 'coming soon' for years. I welcome everyone's feedback on this. Personally I would like to see the members list, members cars and meet pics sections gone as they would be a massive daily chore to keep up to date in light of the size of the Club. It was all fine back when I was the sole webmaster of a tiny EA site called ford.i8.com, but we must adapt.

In place of these sections I would like to see an improved 'wallpapers' section with the cream of the crop meet pics (group shots etc) available for download as well as the continuation and expansion of the 'featured cars' area. This would mean everything is up to date and ongoing chores are under control for realistic future-proofing.

However this is a fairly radical step and I would like to get opinions before I get out the axe.

Special thanks to EDXR-I6 for providing us with a quick and easy way to get the URL, and credit must go to Dez as well for bumping a thread on the topic and getting the ball rolling. It seems our long-time patience has been rewarded.

Great to hear. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get rid of those sections as it would be an extrodinary task trying to keep them up to date.

Why are you still lurking around here anyway? I'm sure the small to mid sized car forums must be missing you already... :P

Good to hear Jack.

Let me know if you need any help with server side database scripting, such as ASP, etc..

I could implement a dynamic section, where one database file could be used to relay a lot of information to many different parts of the website..

For example, members cars could be updated by adding a record in a MS Access database file, rather than editing the HTML and adding pictures, etc..

Jack: i need to get onto you RE: website stuff.

Yagz: members cars will be kept off the site, we simply don't have the web space to make it viable atm.

but don't worry, some stuff is deffinately in the works to keep the site upto date with pics from meets & news.

Very cool, what it should have been from the beginning IMHO. I remember JOhn giving me the link and me thinking 'hang on i told him i own an EF'.
A little too late for this ex-ESeries owner though! Ah well, better late than never. Looking forward to seeing the new site!

CUrrently there are 2 ideas in mind.

1. a redesign that will make updates a lot easier, keep content a lot more upto date but most likely make the website not *quite* as pretty. (i like the current site a lot)

2. a scaling down of the current website to remove features that have no chance of working but keeping the important stuff upto date.

The direction we take will be dependent on what we have access to (server wise) and others opinions.

I find its very important to have a site that is easily updateable, with my www.eurofordclub.com site. otherwise, it just does not get updated... speaking of which...! :

I have spent a great deal of time writing software to make my club site as self sufficient as possible, and will hopefully be releasing some new software very soon to further enhance this and make members be able to not only log in and update their own details, but photos also. I understand you don't want members on your site, but I am just expressing how important it's been to me to make the site as easy to keep fresh as possible.

Great news to have the URL you want too, that's good news. :eclipsee_

I look forward to the new site!

Tim

actually there is a huge need to put crusies on there.
the fact is, the old website (which did at one stage have members cars on it) was way outdated, the best way to keep a site upto date and SHOWING activity, is to show that we have meets very often.
theres no point showing 500 members cars on the site (something that we cannot do due to size restrictions) when there isnt even anything that shows we're active.

Therefore, members cars are being pulled back to 'feature cars'
The feature car setup was introduced with the Club newsletter ages ago, and i think a monthly update of feature cars would be easier to maintain and give a chance for potential members to see what cars are in the club.

The cruise section (owners club section) is basically there only for showing info on previous meets, upcoming meets etc will still all be here, and the forums here will remain unchanged.

If people wanna see the cars we have at crusies, they can look at the cruise pics.

Further to John's comments, I personally feel that regular updates to the wallpapers section with group pics etc from cruises (and of course the date/location of the cruise) would be easier than vast galleries needing updating every week or so. But first things first, great effort with the upcoming site John.

The forum side of the site obviosuly needs to be harder to access :/
currently the only people who are going to have access to the forum area are moderators (ppl who will update the site)
its proving difficult to remove access to it for other people.

All meet information will still be on THIS forum, the website simply shows what we're about and what we do.
upcoming meets won't be displayed on the website.
