Hey there guys,
I need a bit of help. Someone has suggested that I advance the timing of my EA (CFi) Falcon so it might go a little better. But I have no idea how to do it, is it where the distributor is? Where is that in the engine bay? If I advance the timing heaps then run BP 98 octane will I get a big power increase? Thanks guys!

yes, you turn the dizzy to advance the timing
Yes. under inlet manifold, follow the spark plugs leads and loosen the retainer ( 13mm iirc) Nope, a marginal increase but not earth shattering

you need a timing light if you want it done properly... i cbf looking at my mums ea to tell u where the distributor is (do cfi have one i cant even remember that) anyways, it should have 7 leads coming out of it, just loosen the nut on the bottom and turn it to advance the timing, clockwise i think. make sure it's done without the vacuum hose on.

No, CFI doesn't have distributor, CFI got coil on plug.
/sarcasm lol E-Series is a bit beyond vacuum advance :P I wouldn't even bother on a CFI. |

if you don't know where the dizzy is etc etc, then i wouldn't even touch it. get a pro to do it or you could damage your engine if you advance it too much. But like Psycho said, I wouldn't even bother...you won't feel any difference.

So how much can I advance it by before I start to cause problems?
Will the engine make noises or something to indicate its running rich? Clockwise or anti-clockwise? :

LOL, leave it alone, the gain will be shit all, not worth the time or effort really unless you have a few more mods planned.

if u dont know the way to do it then u shouldnt do it. Get your mechanic to do it next time its serviced, or learn how to do it properly - get a workshop manual, a timing light and make sure you know what your doin as the effects are stated above - go too far and u will damage your engine.
If the timing is out then u will get a good difference as i did when i advanced the timing on my EB2 from 6 degrees to 16 degrees. It gained a lot of torque and more power too. The EA's does have slightly differnet ignition needs and I prob wouldnt go further than 14 degrees on your EA with a strict diet of 98 octane fuel. any more and it could be asking for trouble on an old motor |

That's the best advice, if you don't know what you're doing, no offence but it seems that way, leave it alone. You can cause serious damage.
Added to the fact it's not worth it on a CFI car. Go spend your money on an MPFI conversion, not a timing light. |
