Default Where's the beef?

I've listened to people here tell me how great BA/BF V8s sound compared to GenIII/IV Holdens. Well this morning I listened to one of the Execs @ work driving his BF GT up the ramp at the carkpark and even in the confines of the enclosed concrete it sounded pretty mediocre .. twin pipes and all. My stock '03 SV8 sounds better. Have noise emissions gotten dramatically worse since '03 which would cause this?

Yup, Euro 3 as of BF!! Owning one, I also am disappointed in the lack of a decent exhaust noise, but Ford/FPV have no choice (and neither do I, really want my warranty intact). However, it does sound a bit better inside.

Yeah, I haven't heard a BA or BF sound wise I've liked yet. Nothing beats the AU's for modern V8 sound as far as Fords go IMO. Holdens take the cake for sound IMO, except the AUs.

Even my Dads old BA sounded tinny...was around 315kws worth, shaker, exhaust etc etc etc

My 0.02c

The other day while parking at the local supermarket car park managed to hear a new VE clubsport R8 idling along, looking for a car park, was surprised how loud it was, and the oldschool type, but not nearly as good as though : burble from the standard exhaust, very impressed.
I havent heard many good b series V8 notes, no where near as good as the windsor.

Got to agree. I have not heard a decent BOSS compared to the LS1/LS2 style engines. Some BOSS engines have been ok but just don't have that old school rumble.

A friend of mine has a Boss 290 with twin 3" Difilippo system, one of the nicest Modern V8's i have heard. IMO no V8 with full factory exhaust sounds decent.

My BA sounds better than the SV8 we owned. But with regards to euro3 or 4, doesn't it only make the inlet quieter given that the BF have the 6cyl airbox now?

I installed a pretty tame exhaust on my BA XR8 (the stock exhaust is exceptionally tame unless you put the boot in and I didn't want to spend even more on petrol) because there's a crackdown in Sydney for modified exhaust. The shop I got it from doesn't sell any louder due to legal issues.

I was behind a VX the other day, and I followed it a little too closely because I envied its note. Sounded gorgeous.

So you might find note will depend on how much risk the owner wants to bear and the shop who installs it wants to bear.

Boss motors don't really open up the exhaust noise till after 4000rpm. They are pretty quite below that. I doubt he would have been pulling that many revs in a carpark. The aftermarket quad pipe dual 3 inch system sounds pure horn, better than any LS1/2 could ever sound with the odd firing order which affects the sound. They can be loud, but its sound quality you want, not just volume.
