I have to have bit of a rant here. The road outside our house only leads to the street we live on which is kinda a dead end. Anyway for no particular reason the council decided they would re-surface our road, how nice of them. They come along do what ever it is that they do and they have done it all within one day. Anyway the new surface they put down is complete crap! It goes all hot and sticky in the sun and flicks little bits of the gravel/black rocks up everywhere! Its completely terrible they have ********* the road. Its been raining tonight and even now you have to do 20km and even then all you can hear is stones flicking up non-stop. I check my car and down my side skirts is like black tar and the wheel arches are full of little rocks stuck up there.
WHY do they do this? The road was perfectly fine and they completely destroyed it, even at our previous place we had a perfectly good road and they did the same thing. They have destroyed the road to the point where its impossible to drive on as it so ******. Can anyone shed any light on this stupidity?

They are tools basically. There are so many roads here and there that are in shocking condition but they go and redo roads that are in good condition : Makes no sense at all to me either

dont know why they do it, but it happens here as well. makes it tricky to get round town avoiding all the bits that have been done!

They did the same thing at the start of my street about a month ago.. all the residents complained and they were made to come back and actually fix it properly.
Took them 3 days to fix correctly but now the surface is better and only a little rough in one area that is easily avoided as long as another car isn't coming the other way. I have no idea why they decide to mess with perfectly good roads when there are so many cruddy ones. Maybe they are so useless that they mix up the addresses of the roads that need fixing with the roads that don't. :

It is called "spray sealing" they spray a layer of hot bitumen on the road, then they put a layer of aggregate on top of the hot bitumen usually 7mm, 10mm or 14mm. You will probably find that they will pick up the loose bits of aggregate with a street sweeper in a few days. Its a cheap way of resurfacing roads compared to using traditonal type blended asphalt.

It's such a PITA when they do this to roads. If they road needs re-surfacing, do it properly or don't do it at all!!!!!

We had a street sweeper come along last time but all the rocks on the side still remained and managed to find their way back into the middle of the road. The road always use to melt in the heat and get everywhere and then seemed to go shiny in the heavily driven on places and start to look like it was sinking.
They are building a new highway out to join the Bruce highway here and are making it one lane which is completely useless, they spend money on destroying our road when they should be spending that on making the highway two lanes so it doesn't need to be rebuild in 6 months. If the government was a private company they would of been broke long ago.

The same was recently done to Heatherton rd, just after the Power rd. intersection.
The was absolutely NOTHING wrong with this road before they resurfaced it. When they did it, everyone had to crawl along at 10kmph in a 80 zone ! , and even at that speed it was horrid , you could hear all the small stones flicking all over the paintwork and under the car. I was picking stones out for days after, from under the wheel arches, in the tyre grooves , under the car etc etc , they were everywhere stuck on solid / and almost melted/welded into the tyres! . Not Happy ! .
