Default Time for New Brake Pads - Any suggestions???

Yep it's that time of the year...brake pad replacement time

I want something that'll work solidly and last me a good time. Im running stock EF rotors. So what recommendations do you guys have brand wise, and what worked for you and what i should steer clear of.

Also any rough price estimates would help too.

i got bendix advance pads on mine, i don't know what the ones were on it before, but the advance seem to fade quite quick.
I think i'm due for some new rotors, but i don't give my brakes tooooo harder time.
these were $50 a pair.

I sell a few different types at work......

Cheapest ones...Silverline - These work very well for everyday driving, but i wouldn't recommend if ya gonna thrash around with em..these cost around $25.00. Then you've got the Bendix AD like what John's talking about. I would probably prefer the Ferodo XL pads over the AD's....and they cost around $45.00. Then you've got the High End Bendix pads...the Ultimates, they work very well at high speeds...but are very dusty. The cost around $100.00

In order of shortness of life expectancy ( imo)

EBC Green stuff
Bendix Ultimates
Bendix Advance

So I'd go for the Advance, there is a big jump in the longetivity between the Advance and the Ultimates

I'll be getting some Bendix Advance pads for my front brakes soon, I'm running a bit low up front & don't want to fork out for rotors like I did for the rears (my fault there!) :

I have the ultimates. I cant really comment on others because I havn't used anything else. I like the pedal feel and dont seem to fade. The engine braking of the manuals helps out so I am probably not as hard on them as most.

i used the cheapest i could buy as the origional metal kings wore out the discs as well . if they are standard brakes the y are only good for about 5 hard stops per session anyway so the cheapies are the go but when wet they wont be as good. the ones i bought cost $16 PAIR AND LASTED 2YEARS normal driving only but didn't ruin the discs. not much differance at all regardless of price except in the wet. which can be allowed for by the driver.

Remeber the 'tyre principal' applies to brakes too.
The longer they last the less they grip.
I have Green Stuff on front and Bendix Ultimates on rear.
Good brakes, the pedal is a little softer than i prefer but my tank pulls up.

I've ordered some Bendix Advanced pads all round. Should be in tomorrow so we'll see how they go. I might try Ferrodo pads next time round. But for now these will do.

Any idea on whether Bendix is better than the standard Ford Motorcraft pads?

Bendix USED to be the best until they had to stop using asbestos. I use QFM's and they are absolutely great. Cheap too.

I know you've already ordered them but for what it's worth I love the Ultimates. The mess they make is vastly overshadowed by their performance IMHO. I didn't find that they needed to be warmed much to work well like I had heard. They were pretty good first thing in the morning once I'd left the driveway. I bought the car with Bendix pads already in it (so I'm not sure which pads they were exactly) but I noticed a big difference going to the ultimates. They've saved my by centimetres on at least one notable occasion. I've not had pads in this car that are up to the stopping power of the ultimates.

Additionally I tend to rate “ability to stop” higher than longevity when it comes to brakes! Pads are cheaper than accidents. I noticed no significant rotor wear either. Something to keep in mind for your next selection... but be prepared to clean your wheels regularly!

I recently had a set of Ferodo's on my EF, they were SHIT!

I got more dust from them in the 2 week than I did with the old pads in 3 months and the brakes developed a death shudder and on numerous occasions nearly shot the car off the road at 100km/h. Needless to say, the old pads are now back on.

Well the bendix advance pads are in and they seem to do a nice job, very soft smooth stopping and they work nicely.

Yet to see how they go after some wearing in, and some harder testing but they stop the car so thats the main thing

I upgraded the rotors and went for ultimate pads. They are good, but you need F6 coloured mags to hide all the dust.
