I could be a million miles off - but can you put a 3.2l crank into a 4.0l block for a higher-revving I6?

whats the difference with a stock 3.2 or a taxi one? cause im sure you could find a crank at pick-a-part for the 3.2?

I havent even looked at pick a part i dont think high reving would be the nature of any ford motor i only want it to get under 6 letre displacement in a class of racing and you need to times the capacity by 1.7 for turbo so the 4ltr is to big for the class and as i love the ford 6 i figure id see how common the 3.2 ive heard of is.

not common. I remember when i first started posting on ford.i8 there were some pretty wild ideas about building a stupidly high revving OHC by using the 3.2 crank but noone did it. Assuming the crank is of similar strength to a 4L one, and it allowed the fitment of some horny rods and pistons (i dont know the specs) and u had a valve train setup that'd handle some boost and some revs I can see much merit in the idea. there were only 400 3.2 engined cars made iirc. It was a CHEEP option to go the 3.9L CFI engine. The other method is to look at a 200 crank.

With the 3.2 crank the rev limit could be safely raised to 7500ish. Combine this with a wet sleaved block

Walkinshaw you seem to be a clued in fella would the 200 crank fit in the eb block i already have ? I dont actualy want high revs hence why i am opting for a ford motor i want the fa rk loads of torque to pull me out of a corner as it is going in a heavy vehicle

hrm. Less capacity, less torque. Add boost, few more revs and your torque is back.

and yes, walkinshaw does know his shit. I had a bet with myself he'd get on here and know the deal

Id go the 4ltr str8 out but due to class regulations i arnt alowed i have spoken with a mate and he seems to think if i just get an old 200 i can fit a later head to lower the comression and go down that track so i will get the service manual out tonight and check if things are compatable and go from there with only 400 3.2 taxi's made it might be a bit expensive if i start to blow bottom ends being as it is for off road racing i have to think of stuff like fuel starvation ect.

How about an older XW-era 221 crank? (3.6L) Could you bend the rules with one of these? (equiv displacement with 1.7 factor would be 6.12L)

Maybe you could sleeve the bores heaps and fit mega small pistons to get it just under the 6.0L equivalent :P

Did the 221 have the 7main bearings or 4? Post 1965/6 170/200 gained the 7main bearing bottom end, although im not sure if the 221 continued this or went back to a 4main bottom end.

That would make sence. Baz's 170pursuit had 4mains however the 65 mustang 200 of his has 7.
