Default mp3 car stereo's

My young fella has just got himself an mp3/cd player for his EB but I cant for the life if me workout how to burn the mp3 format!!

I was under the impression you just burn the mp3's to disk and get 80 odd songs on there but only 23 fit onto a normal 700meg cdr. How do I do it???

In his instructions it mentions compressed files and the like but how???

You will need to convert the wma files that are on the normal CD to MP3 format. You then copy the MP3 files onto the disk. Hope this makes sence.

Ok , if you have the songs in mp3 format.... when burning a mp3 cd , do not select to make a music cd (this will covert the files back to cdo format again for a normal cd player) , just select to make a data disk ( same burn project as if you were just copying some bits and pieces from your pc to a cd ) .

Nero 7 - Nero Express 7 - Select Music - Jukebox Audio Cd ( Create a cd with all your favorite mp3/wma and Nero Digital Audio file that can be played back on any pc/cd/dvd players, that support mp3/wma or nero digital Audio/Acc Discs, This will give you countless hours of music compared to audio cds.

If you're using Nero, open nero express > music > MP3 Disc

Say what??

Normal retail audio CDs are not in WMA format, they are CDA files.

Ripping to a directory on the hard drive to MP3 format with Audiograbber, Winamp, or another quality program at anywhere between 192kpbs and 320kpbs will do the trick. Then use a burning program such as Nero to burn a data disc (you can select to create an MP3 CD but it works out the same), will provide the result you want.

Burn a data disc, not audio CD.

EDIT: Long time without a refresh and was beaten.

128kbps is enough for a mp3, i have seen normal cd and an mp3 @128kbps run though a Oscilloscope and the distorion levels etc were within 1% the same ! ( as good as the human ear can detect ). If your mp3's sound rubbish at 128kbps then you are either using a junky mp3 encoder to change your cd format to mp3, or your sorftware mp3 player / or hardware mp3 player has a rubbish decoder ! . True ! . One of the oldest and best encoders still around is the LAMEmp3encoder , download the dll file and replace it with the encoder.dll file in your mp3 encoder software if you like ( if your mp3 encoding software allows you to choose which encoder to use ) ;) .

MediaPlayer10 converts (rips) CD Audio to MP3. Its very simple to do. In the RIP settings you choose what quality you would like them in which also determines the size.... 5mb is pretty normal for a song at say 320kbs

It's really a matter of how particular you are

I use to do everything at 128k, then started re-ripping everything at 192k. Currently ripping all CDs as album folders (rather than all tracks in one directory) through Media Player 11 at 240 to 355 variable bitrate WMA, in anticipation of the new car audio setup I'm saving for.

Keep in mind that the higher the bitrate you rip at, the less you'll fit on a disc. At 128 you can get as many as 180 songs in MP3/WMA format (more if you listen to a lot of 50s/60s rock'n'roll).

NOTE: Be aware of what formats your head unit will play. Not all units are compatable with variable bit rate, or wma playback.

Yes , I get 165-180+ songs per disk @ 128k , I used to work at the local radio station and all the songs on the computer were 128k (also took my own external drive with my record collection recorded in Mp3 @ 128k) BUT all songs had to be run through the "Encoder" on Nero , otherwise they caused all sorts of trouble .
