Default Heat shield on Pacemaker 4499's

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has managed to get their standard heat shield back on after installing Pacemaker 4499's.

If the heat shield doesn't fit, are there any other options?

Thanks,

Justin.

What engine do you have? I6 or V8?

when we convert a falcon with extractors (I6) we either place a heat shield around the LPG converter, or a sheet of metal spaced off the extractors by a nut welded onto them. ie: weld a nut on every second pipe, then weld or bolt a sheet of thin steel to them. making sure to bend the steel into shape around the bend.

I have a heat shield on my 4480's. Was just a matter of adjusting its shape to fit.

I6.

Casper, when you say adjust the shape, was it just a matter of bending it by hand while fitting?

By hand, by foot.. it needed a lot of "adjusting". I give G&D credit.. they managed to get it on there and make it look kinda stock.

I have 4499s on my i6 and just told the exhaust guys to reshape the heat shield so it fits back on around the new extractors and thats what they did. Im assuming by hand as they arnt that hard to shape

Thanks for all the info guys!

Kenz, that's exactly what I wanted to see. I'll probably bolt the extractors on myself and have a go at getting the heat shield on, and then I'll have a nice quiet drive to the exhaust shop to get the cat modified and matched up the extractors!

Sounds like I'm gonna have some fun then! 4480's hang out a fair bit more than 4499's though, so maybe I might have an easier time!

Probably not good, but oh well! Just chuck a bolt on that's pretty easy - worst you might be getting is a bit of an exhaust leak.

As for the heat shield missing, plenty do it, but in my experience with a few different cars, is that you end up with a fair bit more radiated heat in the cabin through the firewall, and you tend to melt engine bay parts such as brake booster, wiring, alarm sirens etc over time, this is why I want a heat shield back on.
