Hi I will try not to make this too long
![]() My husband has a 1999 Ford Au flat tray ute and coming home from work last week the top heater hose split so we replaced it all seemed fine until after a long run the next day he discovered what appeared oil to be in the radiator resevoir so we contacted my Uncle a mechanic and took it straight to him after checking oil, water etc. He pulled it down as he suspected it was a head problem and replaced the head gasket. Cleaned radiator etc and took it for a run it appeared fine but then upon checking radiator again realised that it actually appeared to have small red oil droplets rising in the water and tracked it down to transmission fluid so replaced radiator and deemed all well after taking it for a run...... but upon us picking it up and driving it home approx 20 kms it was once again boiling and also interior light will not turn off and central locking will not lock just locks/unlocks and sounds horn which it has never done prior too being worked on. We have removed light globe and thankfully live in a quiet area but was wondering if anyone has any ideas about first the engine boiling (as temp guage does not show overheating ) and secondly is there a quick fix for the remote central locking as it will not lock with just the key only either... Thanks in advance for any ideas!! ![]() |

your radiator is split and transmission fluid is mixing into your coolant and vice versa. get if fixed/replaced and service the transmission

Get your transmission fully flushed, you don't want engine coolant in there.
Perhaps also invest in a transmission cooler, this will ensure the trans fluid never mixes with the engine coolant ever again. And as has been mentioned previously, get the thermostat replaced. For peace of mind, I'd replace all the hoses as well.

When you did any of these repairs, was there much water sprayed around the electrical components? something could have caused a short, throwing out your security system...
When the head gasket was replaced, was the head itself cleaned up, check for cracks and lightly had the face machined for squareness? was the head bolts themselves replaced? A couple of suggestions (only if the afore mention head work was carried out properly): Get a Transmission Specialist to fully service your transmission. Invest in an external Transmission Oil Cooler. Do a thorough engine cooling system fluch (maybe check my guide). Full engine oil service. Do a Battery reset.
