has anyone had problems with the radiator leaking up the top due to rust on both sides.is this a common problem on au fords. should it be replace with a new one or a good second hand one. cheers

Yes, old radiators can rust and leak, especially if you haven't been using inhibitor.
Just replace it with a newie, slide on down to your local red devils and they'll fix you up Shouldn't cost more than about $300 fitted

Yep - Natrad bloke told me 9 out of 10 cooling system leaks on AUs were caused by corrosion in top corners of radiator core. Barsleaks stopped mine in the short term, but a new radiator is so cheap ($130 delivered with a 2 year warranty) its not worth stuffing around with a 2nd hand one IMHO.

Aluminium corrodes very quickly compaired to brass.
With less maintenance than required, amonia levels increase very quickly. High amonia levels increase corrosion levels quickly, thus creating leaks. My suggestion would be a good brass core radiator and a good amount of cleaning.

a lot of radiator problems are caused by no or incorrectly mixed inhibitor make sure you use a good inhibitor and you'll get more life from your radiator and the rest of your cooling system

there are specialist around who will make custom brass tanks but take lots of $$$$$$$$$$$ with you
