Found a loose vacuum hose while crawling around the 2.0l Zetec in the auto Mondeo (built nov 97). Actually found 2, but the first was easy (one of the EGR pressure differential sensor hoses). The second, not so easy...
The known end is the top of the radiator side of the transmission, a couple of centimetres from the selector lever position sensor. The hose reaches to about the brake booster, and has a 90 degree bend at that end. I don't know if it actually goes anywhere near there - that's just roughly how long it is. I have been unable to find anywhere it belongs. I've spent a few days poring over the applicable Haynes manual, tracing all known vacuum hoses, cross-referencing wire colours and sensors, drawing maps and making notes. There seems to be no trace of this hose mentioned there. I've tried an older version of the same manual without luck. Also had a crack at what seems to be a somewhat technical online manual ( http://workshop-manuals.com/ford/mon...t_this_manual/ ), with no joy. I am officially stumped. Does anyone know where it belongs? Thanks! |

Seems like a breather for the gearbox maybe?

That sounds like it!
Found a thread on TalkFord with a picture that matches: http://www.talkford.com/topic/217984...-leak-problem/ Wear marks on the hose seem to line up with what I'd expect in that location. Excellent! Should be back on the road tomorrow. Thanks, Batman! |

An update for those following this. Yep, breather not vacuum. Left the unconnected end unconnected, drove about 350km without any issues.
Thanks again Batman! |
