Default Radiators

Hi all

thinking that while I have the front end apart to put this damn cam in, that maybe I should change the radiator too (far as I know its still on the original one).

I remember reading that one type is better than the other but cant remember what it is, anybody able to help me out?!

Ta

You definately want one with a copper core, over the aluminium one. the price difference isn't too great either - about 220 for copper (I think)

Go the Adrad 2 row Copper/Brass core with plastic tanks. They are a very good unit, built in Australia for its conditions and is far superiour build quality than factory.

AUII XR8 went through two alloy radiators (splits in corners and down size. Radiator guy was dumbfounded as to why someone (not I) would fit another alloy(aluminium whatever they are) back in. He also said copper/brass which I had installed for around $350 radiator included of course (he also changed my header tank and put the old switch back in) Seen copper/brass radiators on e0-bay for round 200 so thought it was reasonable. Specially 3 days before xmas.

Anyways copper/brass way to go

I recently went through this myself. The T3 comes with the aluminium one and it split on both sides. I got a copper core (with metal sides) replacement for $300 fitted, including header tank cleaned, system flushed and new coolant filled. Done through Adrad.

The aluminium one has its advantages. Its is extremely light, and I can literally lift it with one finger. The copper/brass ones are ~2-5kgs heavier, but last longer. I guess the difference is important if you race the car.

I went to one of these ... the standard I6 radiator was crap ... I got an aftermarket I6 replacement one ... and that still couldn't handle heavy load in the middle of Summer.

So I went the twin core copper core ... with the larger internal trans cooler.

It works so well ... the ute barely warms up in Winter on the road ... on the freeway you can watch the temperature drop to cold :

For what it was ... ot wasn't that expensive either ... around the $300 mark from memory .... it has been great.

5/6 years seems to be when when majority of reports of these radiators starting to fail, i noticed bird poo looking deposit(pin hole emerging) starting to emenate from core near the side tank on the drivers side, was`nt losing water at that stage just caught it, 5 years 8 months life span for mine.

Sounds like a the usual header plate issue... nothing unusual there.
