I find it impossible to adjust the brake by sticking a screwdriver in the hole in the rear disc. How is it done?

Most probably the adjuster has seized , have a look through here for some ideas to fix it .

Thank you for that Whoosa, I had to pull the whole thing apart as you described in your comprehensive repair. As a retired mechanic [apart from many other jobs I did as a young bloke] I still have vast collection of special tools for all makes of cars and motorbikes, but alas not one would do the job. This weekend I will make one.

Welcome to the world of unique tools of the AU if you ever decide to pull apart a V8 AU allow another $200 just for the stupid extra tools you will need
