Budget builds,project cars and donor cars

With all the interest lately on "Should this be saved" ect ect
The question i ask is , would all these builds,be it budget or long term builds be possible or come under some reasonable finish cost if it wasnt for the donor car ???

Ive near finished a ute project , theres no way it would be done if it wasnt for the donor car/cars
Not from just a monetary perspective but the ease of scrounging the mobile parts bin

So whats peoples take on donor cars ???
Could things be done better without them ???
Would things never be done without them ???
