The fantasy of flying cars moved a step closer to reality with the Terrafugia Transition successfully completing the flying test. US-based firm Terrafugia said their production prototype Transition car-plane had successfully carried out the test flight, clearing the way for it to hit the market within a year.

These prototypes have been around for decades. I remember one one TV, I can't remember what it's called but it's a plane with detachable wings and becomes a really weird looking car. It's still actually a plane though.

looks good, i can see myself winging it over the peak hour traffic in melbourne no worries, but to be honest i can`t see it ever happening in any major way, half the road users can barely operate a car on the ground, can you imagine a sky full of irate plane car drivers at peak hour lol.

Everytime I read something about another flying car, the name Paul Moller comes to mind.

I suppose Civilian Chinooks could be an option as well, though a high cost one!

The problem with all flying cars is you need both a car and plane license, the other problem is the cost of one of these (this one is a mere $250,000)

Seen this a few weeks ago. Stupid idea. Would never work.
How high can it fly? I can see it causing problems for real plains. I can see someone hopeless passing in front of active runway at Kingsford Smith and forcing A380's and 747s to dodge some idiot trying to get to the local shops. Quote:
Exactly what I was thinking. |
