OK so I am not talking about some floppy 80's fibre glass attempt but more the full kits from the likes of DRB etc.
Has anyone here tried building one themselves or known someone who has? How did they go and are they happy with the result. I understand these can be a bit of "how long is a piece of string" but I wanted to hear if people then they are worth it? Its a medium term plan of mine to have a track car of some type, I want to stay classic so I would be looking at something like a AC cobra, Daytona Coupe or maybe a GT40 but the throught of acquiring a transaxle is a bit scary. Not saying this is going to happen or even start tomorrow, but I was curious about whether people thought the process was worth the potential pain? I think I like the idea of building it to my own spec in my own time.

I'm keen to hear some stories about this too, I've been eyeing up the cobra kits recently.
16k for the basic kit though... Not a fan of the 'modern' version though. Plus I'd probably go ls1 rather than boss powered. Don't seem to see them pop up for sale privately very often, sort of wonder ow many half finished projects are just sitting gathering dust. |

There were a few GT40 kit cars at the Picnic at Hanging Rock this year, they look pretty decent.

The DRB 540 is pretty good too.
Just need a wrecked XR8 for the running gear. |

I have seen a a few kit cars built by a guy in Perth. They are rear-engine 'Lamborghini' kits. In one of them he used an LS3 engine connected to an Audi transmission.
In the other one he used a Camry V6 with the front sub-frame from the Camry installed in the rear of his kit car. It sounds like he wants approx. $40.000 for a half built kit, and approx. $100.000 for a finished and painted one. Personally I would hesitate to pay that much for something 'one-off' that for sure will have a few fibre glass cracks pretty soon. Also these kits are probably quite 'rough' (lacking refinement) and wouldn't do too good at the race track either. Cheers |

Mate is building a DRB cobra at the moment, but it's on the back burner for a while.
Not a bad set up. No real concerns, if I was keen on kit cars, I'd get one I guess.
